Hockey is a niche sport. I mean it's not played in many countries and in the top league in the world over half the franchises struggle to maintain profitably. I realize Anthony just got 129m for 5 years and basketball is fairly niche as well I suppose but they have the US market enraptured so that's just about all of the battle won. - AlexF
Absolutely, it's just a reminder that we are on our own little island up here in the Great White North. Nobody else actually gives a poop |

If his next deal hurts that would have meant he improved dramatically, which would be nice to see. - AlexF
Yep! Bittersweet I would think. But it is encouraging that they got the deal done so quickly. I think if things go well for him during this contract he will not be unreasonable |

Not sure if this is fair value, but would these trades work out?
MTL: Burrows
VAN: 3rd Round Pick
WPG: Jensen, Markstrom and a 2nd
VAN: E. Kane
Not sure if thats fair, but I would think switching Markstrom for Lack wouldn't be a bad idea as well. Like someone said in the comments, when Miller's contract is up, Demko should be NHL ready leaving no room for either Lack or Markstrom. - Salami
You'd have to think they'd get better offers for Kane, but you never really can tell what the going rate is for disgruntled youths with dubious reputations. That could all be media over-hype though. What's important is what other GMs think, and per Botch the Cancuks apparently have "negative interest." |

I think that's what most of us are reading. I don't agree with everything Lord Benning has done but I can't say his tenure thus far has been uneventful. |

That's the thing, how much is it reality and how much is it just papers trying to sell more papers? Would you take him for a reasonable package (even if you had to trade some high end prospects?). I would |

Kassian's deal right where it should be... How some ppl thought he'd earned more @ this point is beyond me. |

You bet. I was huge on getting Seguin here last summer. I'm not as keen on trading for E Kane as I was Seguin but absolutely I would trade for him.
It's clear that WPG have many of the same issues as EDM in terms of attracting free agent talent so they'd really need to do well for themselves on a Kane trade. |

Kane to Van is dead. If Gilly was here it might have happened. Benning wants "high character" guys. He wants to change the culture. Bringing in a guy who has had attitude issues seems to be the exact opposite of what Benning would do.
He's a no nonsense kind of guy and one look through Kane's twitter account and Benning would ship him out. I really wanted Kane though |

Maybe Kane doesnt like Winnipeg? Might be a better guy in a market he could develop into a star to be literally worshipped.

To be honest, with the terrible year everyone had last year and still come out woth a decent year im surprised he didnt get at least 500k more. Im glad they only gave hik this much but with the way some people get overpaid, he couldve got more im sure especially if he was a UFA. |

Not enough cap for him with that trade though. Burr would have to waive and might be hard without that happening. |

With Burrows gone, you bet there is!
That being said, it will never happen. |
