hes finally convinced he wont get 64 goals? now going to the more realistic 10?
- nightmare3020

He has already proven he is a bust, so will be lucky to score 10 a year now.

That poop? Are you kidding me? He leads our team in goals his rookie year and how do you reward him? With less than 5 minutes of ice time the first game back, 3rd-4th line duties and restricted PP time. Eakins is a (frank)ing idiot.
- SpoiledByOil

Oh yeah, let's just let him be defensive liability for the sake of exciting goals! That's how to develop a winner.

This.
I agree it seems like he wasn't treated fairly, but to play in the NHL you need to be able to play both ends of the ice to a certain level. Yak was absolute poop in the D zone. Everyone recognizes his offensive ability, but to be as effective Eakins has to teach him some how. But I also believe Ramsay will be able to do a much better job with Yak and Schultz.

That's a better way to articulate it that I employed. Not a huge Eakins booster, maybe he didn't do well with Yak, but someone has to learn him to at the very least not be retarded defensively.

No you take an offensive dynamo and put him on a checking line and take away his PP time, that's the proper way to develop a goal scorer, right on. Give your head a shake.

So you take him off the PP and don't put him in a position to succeed, just completely ruin his confidence. So why at him for less than 5 minutes first game back? Why send him straight to the 3rd and 4th lines? That's great development right there "you were awesome offensively, so now we're going to cut your minutes and throw you in a defensive role to further your development" give me a break. He wasn't poopty defensively when he started the year with scrapper minutes. You ruin his confidence and give him a defensive role while he struggles defensively, genius

So with his play last year he was justified playing less than 5 minutes to start the season this year? And you being serious too? Not just trolling?

I agree. While Yak is terrible in his own end, ideally he plays with linemates other than Gordon and Gazdic or whoever the brilliant combo was from Eakins for that game so that he plays with the top tier guys who result in the play being more in the offensive zone. The more Yak is in the offensive zone, the less he is in the defensive zone. It's either give him top minutes and PP time with the top players, or hide him with plugs in the bottom 6 where he can't get anything going offensively and is constantly stuck in the defensive zone. Eakins has not managed Yak well at all so far. Hopefully it changes.

You're right that he's played like poop defensively and has to be held accountable, but sticking him with limited minutes with defensively-minded players is not helping him develop. It's no news that we have had atrocious teams since 2006, it's not like giving Yak more ice time was going to hurt our playoff chances. Part of a rebuild is allowing these young players to develop properly, not having them ride the pine. He has much to learn, but last time I checked, he wasn't drafted to be a Selke winner.

I'm not saying Eakins handled him perfectly, but I admire the ffforts he made to not just let be the next Sergei Berezin. Neither were 100% in the right or 100% in the wrong. You clearly have taken your position and I don't expect you look at it any other way, so carry on.

Now that’s not exactly blockbuster news. He isn’t moving to a new team (sorry Maple Leafs, you cant have him for Reimer) and he isn’t leaving North America.
- Matt_Henderson

hey now hey now

it's Reimer + Franson

get it right

Last year hall should have been an all star over Pavelski, maybe even benn. Either way he should be there. He puts up superstar numbers
