Philly wouldn't do that deal because we don't need wingers, and Coburn is our best defensemen.

Kind of like how you wouldn't trade Petry for some players, because all it does is open up a huge hole on your squad. Deal makes the team worse, not better, despite being fair value.

A reasonable argument, but what player isn't inconsistent at times? A player with no concussion history at all could see their career end in a split second due to a concussion. Moot points IMO.

I think a fairer point would be that in today's NHL, Coburn is more valuable because he is a defensemen who can eat significant minutes. Perron is more of a fringe 1st liner but bonafide second line scorer on all 30 teams in the league. Even then, I don't think that would stop a deal involving the two.

It all really depends on the teams needs, but those players are certainly close in terms of value, at least IMO.
