Like them or not, any list that doesn't include the beatles is a farce. - golfingsince

Not even close, Nirvana were awesome. You would have never even heard of Pearl Jam without Nirvana. That said, the end of Nirvana wasn't all bad, Dave Grohl went on to make Foo Fighters and about a thousand other things. Dave Grohl love him or hate him is a musical genius. - Horseguts
Hey! My opinion! Nirvana is by far the better band. |

Yeah, I suppose your right, and Elvis too. Fck the King but for sure I should have had the Beatles on my list. I guess when I think Rock I automatically narrow it down to "hard Rock". - Jeropotato
I thought Elvis's music was sh1t, but he's definitely one of the most popular singers of all time. |

Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and lets not forget Motherlovebone. There were far more that put it in the spotlight than just those 2. They are also far from being the roots of that scene. - ruttager17
Jimmy Hendrix + Iggy and the Stooges = Grunge. |

IMO there have been so many rock bands out there that in order to make a top 10 list they have to transcend the ages, and add something to it. My list would probably look different from everyone else's here but I'd have to give it some thought before I ever came up with it. |

Well when I put out a list of my favorite rock bands it obviously isn't "the definitive list". Theyre all different, whether you listing the most popular, most influential, most underrated or most whatever. Some peoplke would put that fat POS on their list even though he just stole "Black" music and made it white. |

AiC was more a metal band until Nirvana gained fame.
Motherlovebone essientially PJ. (Lead singer in MLB OD on herion, they added Vedder)
STP is a great band, but I'm not sure they really brought it to the spotlight. |

Well my list was just my favorite sh!t I like to rock to. The Beatles were great obviously, but when I'm in the mood for something old and not very "Rockin" like that I tend to listen to Bob Dylan more . |

(frank), Nirvana was no where near the creator of Grunge. He just had the most sucessful band. And I enjoyed their music...
You can credit The Melvins for the start of Grunge...
And for the bands that carried on, Pearl Jam stopped making videos/singles after Kurt's death because of their issues with Ticketmaster. Layne & AiC just left the face of the earth, Soundgarden out of the "big four" was probably the worst, I enjoy listening to them, but they never really were commerically sucessful. - Oilers4Life14
Try and read, I said they were hardly the founders.
It is awesome that you can use google to search this sh!t, but Kirk 12guage to the brain and Peal Jam's issues with ticketmaster have (frank) all to do with each other, besides one predating the other. Nirvana had album's before Nevermind that did (frank) all, then only because of SLTS did they get big, then another one and then the end. Soundgarden was very successful commercially. Had platinum selling records and topped the charts. Do you even have a clue wtf you are talking about??? |

Alice in chains wasn't even grunge. They were "rebranded" as grunge to try to capitalize on the scene at the time. |

My favorite Grunge bands were and still are Mudhoney, Tad, and Soundgardens first 2 or 3 (everything after that was complete sh!t). |

C'mon man, you said you lived through it. Nirvanna and Pear Jam were top of the charts before STP even released an album under that name. |

Dude...that was 20 years ago....I was there, pissed and stoned in high school...easy to forget minor details like that.
MotherLoveBone and Green River and the Melvins were probably the most popular local bands in Seattle before Nirvana made it big ...(Locally, they didn't really have a great following compared to others for quite a while). |

They had one album called Bleach that was on a small Seattle based record label called Sub Pop, Nevermind was their next and it was with DGC which put money and effort behind it bringing it to "the masses". They exploded once people actually heard them. Every album after that(Incesticide, In Utero, Unplugged in NY, Muddy Banks of the Wishkaw) sold and sold some more. Hell, they're still selling to this day.
Hell I can remember trying to check out the subpop albums and you had to call the seattle office and have them mail you their catalog and then you had to order directly from them. |

Yep. They opened for Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax's big tour before grunge broke. |
