I would just keep Vinny or just buy his contract out at this point if you are going to have to eat half his salary and give something up. The flyers don't actually have to move him or anyone for that matter. If they want to optimize Pronger's LTIR space yeah but its not a necessity. They can just keep the roster as is and have less flexibility mid season. |

They will have several players they could invite to training camp. Go look at the free agent list. The David Booth and Raphael Diaz types will be lucky to get contracts at this point. |

Luke Schenn for Grabner and a 2nd in 2015 saves 600,00. Would the Caps trade Alzner for Read saves 1.2. Akeson and Rosehill . Total is around 2.9. - bhigh21
Why would the isles take Schenn for Grabner and a 2nd lol? |
|
|

Because they want to move Grabner for D help and Schenn would be a great fit for them. 3.6 for a dman with 260 hits last season is a good value. Take a look at what garbage ufa's got.
That would be a good hockey trade for both teams. They could have Grossman if they prefer. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: July 4th Quick Hits - bmeltzer
Right now, if the best they can do in a Lecavalier trade is eat half his contract and include a decent pick, they might need to bite the bullet and keep him.
Last evening there was a good discussion of where they could fit Vinny. My suggestions were to use him as Giroux's RW, with Voracek sliding to RW on a line with Brayden Schenn or to use Vinny as the 2C with Voracek on his wing. The thought process was to provide Vinny with a linemate-or two-who was excetional at not only controlling the puck and driving possession, but also who had the vision an playmaking abilities to allow Vinny to find seams in the defense and fire away as a shooter.
The problem is, if he has another bad year, the buyout would be a bastard.
Vincent Lecavalier buyout from CapGeek.com
2015-16: $2,888,889
2016-17: $2,888,889
2017-18: $2,388,889
2018-19: $888,889
2019-20: $888,889
2020-21: $888,889

Happy 4th of July to all the Flyers fans south of the border.
Keep Vinny, 20 goals being moved around the line up is good. Frank retaining salary in a deal. |

20 goals is great. Bad two way play that hurts the team at 5 on 5 is a big issue. |

In what way is Schenn a good fit for them. Hes a turd on the flyers and he'll be a turd on isles. On top of that a 2nd round pick lol? I wouldn't even trade a 2nd round pick for Schenn. If only hits actually made you a good defenseman. Still doesn't add up with Grossman as long as you want a 2nd round pick lol. I would give the isles a first round pick if they took MacDonald and his awful contract back lol. |

Happy 4th of July.
Have some of that good Texas barbecue for me Bill.
I'm at the point where I'm ok with Vinnie coming back next year.
Retaining 50% salary and or taking back a bad contract is not appealing.
Berube has some work to do to make the lines work out, he will earn his paycheck for sure if he finds a way to do it well. Hopefully Vinnie comes back healthy and well motivated. |

Agreed. If Vinny comes back, Berube has to do a better job of finding him an effective role. That's an imperative |

I mentioned yesterday a trade with edm. Lecavalier and coburn for Perron and petry.
Petry is not as good but he is RH. A better puck mover. This deal we woul get younger cheaper and more flexible |

Shake up the lines, hide his minutes, whatever.
Unless someone has a freak off-season injury at center (apparently, only the Flyers are good at that sort of thing), folks should get used to the idea that Vinny is coming back. There isn't some mythical GM that is going to do the Flyers any favors with Lecavalier's contract. Giving up high picks AND eating salary AND taking back a contract would be an awful outcome. It's not like Vinny is a leper. Find a spot for him and hope he bounces back enough that you can capitalize on someone else's bad luck during the season. |

I wonder if it is time to start thinking about moving an asset that people might actually want to get some cap relief instead of trying to push Vinny out the door.
(I like him, he is a class act, he can still play in the right role...I don't see that being here).
My bigger issue is how is it that the Flyers continually (since the cap) get into this situation and NEVER LEARN!!! Doesn't anyone remember them playing one day tryout defensemen in a game because they couldn't afford the prorated price of bringing up a player from the AHL because their cap situation was so bad? I haven't checked, but do they even have a complete lineup under contract?
Cleaning this mess up is really the biggest task that Hexy faces. Long tearm cap liquidity...no more spend every cent they allow and then banking on the injuries. |

Tye Mcginn was traded for a 3rd round pick , but you don't think two proven NHL dmen with below market contracts are going to get you a second round pick.
Go look at the Islanders depth chart they could use a physical dman.
I won't waste my time with you , you don't get the value of dmen.

I don't watch EDM very much, so have no idea if this is realistic or not.
How does the money work on this? Would it help or hurt the cap situation?
Is Coburn that much better then Petry to make EDM take VL for Perron? |

I think Hexy realizes this and will work it out.
However as Bill points out he should have gotten more cap relief when moving Hartnell. Taking back nearly identical salary with Umby was far from ideal.

I would not make that trade, but I agree that might be the type of deal it will take.
I like Matt Read, but he could be moved. If we could grab a dman like Bogosioan or Alzner in a package, maybe you can trade Coburn. |

I would hate I see them dump a useful guy for a pick because they are unable to dump VL |
