So who is done with Rinaldo as a regular? I'd say if Ott comes on board. I definetly am. Ott, Simmonds, and schenn should provide enough grit. Rinaldo is just a spark plug no more no less. - Just5

hmm. What are your lines as the team stands now? - jstross
Read-G-
Simmonds-Schenn-Jake
Akeson-Coots-Umberger
Bell-Vinny-Raffl
I just don't know. I always fight with myself about it. I think a Simmonds/Schenn/Jake line would be nasty. Jake driving possession, Simmer at the net, and Schenn taking the shots.
This is why I don't condone the "first line winger" vacant spot, but going out and getting someone at the price of a top 6 forward and a pick is not worth it.
Something else I can think of is:
Simmonds-G-Read
Vinny-Schenn-Jake
Akeson-Coots-Umberger
Bell-Laughton-Raffl
I dunno about that second line though. Could be exposed defensively.
I do want to see G and Jake separate and have been beating that drum for a really long time now, but now with Hartsy gone it might not happen.
Also, we need to decide if Vinny is a winger or a center. Same with Schenn. Because hell- Schenn could play first line wing. But he needs to be slotted either as a C or a W and STAY THERE |

Ok, but at $2.95 million in an under performing season I think it could be cheaper. Maybe a one year show me deal? |

Hexy is badass. You know he's holding firm with the offer. Ott will cave. Hopefully just a 2 yr deal |

I honestly had to reread this. Thought this said "holding firm with the officer" and figured it was another Giroux joke, butt it wasn't. |

Adding Ott doesn't make or break them. If the term is too long it could be an issue. |

It doesn't. But I think we need a guy like him if we are moving on from Rinaldo. I don't want Simmonds to be the one in all the scraps |

True, they're losing some feisty in the Hartnell deal. It'd be a decent idea to have a bit of toughness in the bottom six. |

In Scott Hartnell, you lose a lot more then long clown hair and sliping on banana peals.
You lose grit, scoring and leadership. He wasn't the most talented of players but he was effective within his role. A guy like Scott Hartnell creates space for guys like Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek to go to work.
RJ Umburger, Nick Schultz, Blair Jones, Andrew Gordon and Zack Stortini.
Three of five of these names will end up in the AHL. None of which replace Scott Hartnell. Heck, Nick Schultz can't replace Erik Gustafsson.
Bellmare on the other hand...I know some are optimistic of what Pierre-Edouard Bellmare could bring to the forth line. Who the (frank) is Pierre-Edouard Bellmare and what is he suppose to bring to any line? He's a 29 year old NHL rookie and I don't know what his role is suppose to be.
So yes, I'm frustrated with this offseason so far.
Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lacavalier-Simmonds
Umburger-Couturier-Read
Bellmare-Laughton-Rinaldo
Rosehill
This is all the positive thinking I've got towards this team for the upcoming season right now. Raffl isn't a top line player, we don't know if Schenn is ready for it and the way Umburger is being paid, he should start there but we all know he's not a first line LW either. |

My thoughts exactly. Simmonds within he top 6 isn't gonna ask permission from the coach to fight. A smart kid like him is going to fight when he sees fit and the problem with this is, we need him not to. At least not for this roster alone.

From what I hear Shultz is better than Gus. He is an adequate 3rd pairing guy and an excellent 7th guy. Sure the Umburger deal we lose grit but we get better skating and some actual defensive play back. I was sick and tired of seeing hartnell standing around in the D zone while guys skated by him, he wasn't the only one but still. The other 3 are call up guys or 4th line guys depending on our Day one Roster. |

FORWARDS
R.J. Umberger ($4.600m) / Claude Giroux ($8.275m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Michael Raffl ($1.100m) / Brayden Schenn ($2.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) / Sean Couturier ($1.750m) / Matt Read ($3.625m)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m) / Jason Akeson ($0.575m) / Travis Moen ($1.850m)
DEFENSEMEN
Mark Streit ($5.250m) / Andrew MacDonald ($5.000m)
Chris Pronger ($4.941m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Grant Clitsome ($2.067m)
Kimmo Timonen ($2.000m) / Nick Schultz ($1.250m)
GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($4.100m)
Ray Emery ($1.000m)
RETAINED SALARIES (1.30% of upper limit)
Vincent Lecavalier ($0.900m—20.00%)
SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,878,095; BONUSES: $1,500,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $121,905
-Vincent Lecavalier (20% salary retained) for Travis Moen
-Nick Grossman for Grant Clitsome
Winnipeg is on record saying they'd like to trade Clitsome. Slightly cheaper than Grossman, same years. Clitsome is also open to trade, so there's a pretty decent chance he'll be on another team next season regardless. Grossman is a more then suitable replacement for Winnipeg. Schultz and Clitsome duke it out for 6th spot.
Lecavalier to MTL may be a tough sell, but he's always wanted to play there and at one point the Habs would have traded half their team for him. We can't eat more than 20%, but if we have to, Travis Moen is the only player I'm taking back if I'm being forced to take on a contract. Under 2 mill and only 2 years left.
I'd go with something like the following after Pronger is on LTIR.
Read-Giroux-Simmonds
Umberger-Schenn-Voracek
Raffl-Couturier-Akeson
Moen-Laughton-Bellemare
Streit-Coburn
AMac-Schenn
Timonen-Clitsome
