You could have been calling Hall "Umby" all along - Jsaquella
That's nickname mismanagement IMO |

Flip side is we have a player we can call umby again - funmaster18
This is true.
When they made the trade the Flyers were saying it made them faster.
I never thought of Umby as a particularly fast skater for some reason.

I don't watch EDM very much, so have no idea if this is realistic or not.
How does the money work on this? Would it help or hurt the cap situation?
Is Coburn that much better then Petry to make EDM take VL for Perron? - Marc D
Helps our cap Petry is a RFA right now. I'm thinking around 3.5? Perron is 3.8.
The thing is edm is heavy and expensive on LW. Hall, Perron, pouliot. They are missing a 2C
The Edmonton posters wouldn't do this hah. But I wonder if the bones are there |

I would hate I see them dump a useful guy for a pick because they are unable to dump VL - funmaster18
Agreed. I think Hextall is looking long haul anyhow. Keeping or trading Vinny this summer isn't going to be the difference between a Stanley Cup in 2015 or not. Ditto for Grossmann. The key has to be to do the least amount of long term damage |

Keep him. Make amends. Let him thrive. (frank) the vultures. Move on and prove them wrong. - wilsonecho91
Let him Thrive?
Is he enrolled in a summer speed skating school?
Would buying him out not be the best option?
DelZotto is probably the last defenseman on the market who can help us, better option than his salary strangling us on the 4th line again. |

And that makes sense to me. If VL on the team isn't the difference between a cup this year, why rush a bad trade? |

If they can get a 2nd or 3rd rounder and eat only $1.5mm, it's workable. Otherwise, keep Vinny. |

Is RJ a more tradeable piece than VL?
I would rather have a Setoguchi than RJ, and the cost could be less.
That would save some coin. I may be still bitter on RJ after the Hartnell trade.

He kills penalties, is a better 2 way forward, he's more versatile.

I think the bones are there to a deal. Edmonton is very high on Perron, but i think both clubs have the pieces to make a deal work. |

It's expected to...The NHLPA membership helped to limit the cap this year, as they had escrow concerns. |

At the press conference to announce the cap for this year Bettman said 5% going forward every year is the target for hockey related revenue growth. I think some teams (eg Chicago) are trying to move salary now and get contracts done (Kane and Toews) so they don't take another hit next year.

Absurd, the guy had 20goals last year. He just doesn't fit our game plan very well. Vultures! - coffee junkie
Vinny did not fit anywhere in the plans of the team last year. The team's lines will need to be completely reworked to fit Vinny in. Not that he couldn't fit in, but a team shouldn't have to be completely reworked in order to fit one guy in. That's what is meant by "he doesn't fit on this team". |

Yeah, dumping Vinny for Setoguchi or even MDZ is not going to put this team in league with the best teams out there. They're several significant pieces away, and they don't have the present flexibility to go after them.
They really don't have any choice but to wait for some of Homer's past extravagances to wash out of the roster, and "waste" some of our young core's peak production years in the meantime. Sanity has to return to the budget or we'll be caught in this cycle of sign/dump/sign forever. |

It's not even the dollars on these deals that are killing them, even Being over the cap. It's the term. |
