I was talking about the team having VL and and Schenn on the left wing. You brought up a season that VL wasn't on, so you tell me - funmaster18
You brought up Lecavalier in a conversation that he wasn't even apart of. I was making the put that we rely heavily on Giroux. If you wanna suddenly switch the channel, the Flyers are trying to move Lecavalier, so is this your way of saying we won't make the playoffs without him? The season before we had Danny Briere. So again, what were you getting at? |

Ok well, if you're talking about Giroux getting hurt when you posted "what if he gets hurt", then Jake moves up to first line wing and sets up these goals in the interim. Moreover this kind of is a knock against your point, because theoretically the " top line sniper" shouldn't be setting up goals. If G gets hurt, then that proverbial top line winger is in effect hung out to dry. But, luckily we have Jake to step in and be the set up man.
If the "he" in the what if he gets hurt post is one of our 6 20 goal scoring forwards, well...we have 5 more for the top line. - Giroux_Is_God
One of our six 20 goal scoreres. Giroux is one of the six 20 goal scorers. If he gets hurt, we're down to five. If Lecavalier is traded, with the Giroux injury, we're down to four.
Voracek wouldn't move up to the first line, on the depth chart he's already on the top line and he's not setting up at a Giroux level. |

What if any teams top center gets hurt? It happens.
And I thought this convo stemmed from keeping VL and putting Schenn on the left wing. But you know what, I decided that I can spin a conversation anyway I want since that seems to be the norm here

At least he's there.
You seem to have a problem with the Flyers not having a suitable replacement in the case Giroux gets hurt. Am I gathering this correctly? |

Could you show me the post where you would get this assumprion? I never said anything about keeping Lecavalier. I'm under the assumption based on talk and rumours that he's already gone. |

LA did similar things with Manchester, and instilled a winning philosophy througout the organization. - Jsaquella
For 2014-15, the Flyers are still set to contend for the play-offs. Once you're in, you never know. Are they a favorite? Clearly no.
It is usually said that the Flyers make decisions to contend for the Cup. Hextall is appears to be focusing on setting the Phantoms up to contend for the Calder Cup. If they can give Ghost, Alt and Hagg huge minutes in every situation and they are winning on a consistent basis, that will bode well for their transition to the NHL. Depending on how both the Flyers and the Phantoms are doing, I could see one of those guys coming up to be on the third pairing during the second half of the season. Winning breeds winning. In a way, he is setting the team up to win the Cup. Just not next season. We can still hope to catch lightening in a bottle, though.
If they retain Vinny, I am also a proponent of moving Voracek to his line, perhaps with Read as the other winger. Simmonds scored less than half his goals at even strength (if he was challenging for Tim Kerr's record, I wouldn't care) and is not a terribly fast skater. |

Well, if you do, I would a) say yes, this a concern every fan should have, and more importantly, b) G is one of the top players in the game. Just by virtue of that title, he's going to be irreplaceable. What happens to the Blue Jackets if Johansen gets hurt? They don't have a replacement either.
It's hard to "replace" Giroux if he gets arres- I mean hurt. It's hard to replace any top player in the league.
No reason to be upset at the Flyers for not having a G2.0 on the team. However, it certainly is valid to be concerned he gets injured.
28 other teams are in the same boat here. The only one who isn't is the Pens, with Malkin and Crosby.

With the new alignment done with each division, it's tougher to make the playoffs now. Washington for example strikes me as the team they've always been but didn't make it. They were right there with everyone else to make it but fell out of favour. They made deadline deals like they were going to make it but did not. In my opinion this has something to do with the division change up. The Maple Leafs are a victim of their own undoing but they had a stranglehold on a top four seed and lost it within a week. The Flyers are one year removed from missing the playoffs. I think this is still a fragile group, in the possibility is still very much there that we did not make the playoffs unless we make a couple of significant moves. |

Bolts lost Stamkos for all but 37-games this past year and still had home ice in the PO's. Some guys will step up and blossom in greatly expanded roles, and great goaltending and luck could help you weather the storm. It's not the end of the world... it's not like the other 20+ guys on the roster are chopped liver. |

I'd have to agree. Either him or Mueller, wouldn't touch Heatley with a hundred foot pole.
Seto is the better skater of the two and isn't a terrible defensive player. Mueller is also a pretty polished player and probably the more talented scorer, but not the better skater.
I do really like the idea of Mueller playing with Jake and Giroux, though. Especially on the off wing with his shot. Mueller would without question have one of the best shots on our team if he came here. I actually can't think of anyone on our roster other than Giroux that could touch him in that regard. |

If Chicago loses Kane or Toews or both, they still have Hossa and Sharp. The Hawks can afford to lose players to injury, even a top 5-10 point producer like Patrick Kane. Same with the Kings with Kopitar, Carter, Gaborik, Brown and Williams. Sharks - Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski and Couture. Boston had Bergeron, Krejci, Lucic, Erickson, Marchand and Iginla. Even to a smaller extent the Ducks can trust Perry to carry the load without Getzlaf. Malkin is a number one center without Crosby.
We can rationalize this in anyway it takes to cope but injuries happen and this team is too dependent on Giroux. You're right though, Giroux did end the season with the third most points in the league, even with a slow start might I add. How does 100 plus points sound to you with a legit winger? How does leading the league and proving this guy is the best in the league with legitimate support sound to you? How does feeling perfectly safe and comfortable that we'll make the playoffs even if Giroux does get hurt sound to you? |
