Smaller list to pick from given my age, I'd love to say someone like Gretzky or Coffey or Orr but I never saw them play. - Sabresfan-365
I'm 42, so I never really got to enjoy Orr.
Gretzky and Coffey, however, were right in my wheelhouse, as far as being the perfect age to follow them.
My dad used to work as a statistician up in the press box at the Aud, and I used to get all sorts of perks (have a stick, which was Derek Smith's, signed by the entire 1981-82 team that I'm particularly attached to), and the night Gretzky broke Phil Esposito's goals in a single season record I was sitting in the reds right behind where the Oilers shot twice. Gretzky put 7 shots on Don Edwards - all saves - before he finally ripped one past him to break the record, with about 7 minutes left. The amazing thing about Gretzky was the disgusting pace at which he piled up points. He had 2 assists before that record breaking goal. What was most amazing about that guy this particular night was that he put two more behind Edwards in the last 3 minutes. 5 points, with all that pressure on that 21 year old kid. Just amazing. |

I'll name a former player actually two that I really liked as a kid
Pavel Bure and Paul Kariya. Really liked Bure's speed and skill and Kariya just seemed like a natural leader. |

A healthy Eric Lindros in the mid-to-late 90s was something to watch live. Saw him put Richard Smehlik and Bob Sweeney into the third row on hits during his first shift one year. Also saw him score a hat trick in the final game of his rookie year at the Aud.
Injuries (and bad habits) killed him, like Bobby Orr. |

Favorite non sabre is pavel bure. He was the most exciting player I have ever seen play IMO. Also scored 50 goals with 1 of the worst Florida teams ever. I like that he went to a terrible team and didn't follow around a stacked team like how most free agents do today. |

Funny story. When we were kids my best friend spent $50 to buy a broken hockey stick from a talented 18 year old sabres rookie named phil housley. It was a lot of money when we were 10 years old, and his parents came over from sicily when he was a year old. Needless to say, it would not have been a purchase that was green lighted in his house. He put the stick with his hockey equipment. His dad broke the handle on his shovel and went looking for something that would work to replace it. He cut the blade off the stick and screwed the stick into the shovel. My friend came home from school and lost his mind, and to this day never told his father what he had done. |

My god bure was fast. Its hard to believe that he played with fedorov and mogilny in russia. Mogilny put together some pretty respectable numbers himself, but I think most people think mogilny didnt have a quarter of the drive the other 2 had. |

he was in the league from 91 till 2002 so 11 years. Decent career. I don't know what he's up to now but I know his brother Valeri married DJ Tanner from Fullhouse.. |

Mogilny had 473 goals and over 1000 points, over a point a game, doubt he sees the hall of fame though. Heard that luce may have glossed over the fact that buffalo, although part of new york state, was in fact not actually anywhere near new york city. Different strokes for different folks I guess, bure didnt seem to mind playing in florida, and fedorov did pretty alright in motown. |
