1) I've seen the Vbrata-Carter comparisons a few times between HB, HF and Twitter. Carter was 6'1 and 2010 pounds, built well for the cycle game and for battles in and around the crease. Vrbata likes to hang around in the slot, not much help in the cycle game or for puck retrieval. Vrbata is also a player who generates a decent amount of his offense off of the rush as well, something the Sedins don't really do. Both are good finishers though.

2) Manny is not an upgrade over Richardson as a 4LC, Richardson is a much better skater, can also play wing and outside of faceoffs I really don't see any part of Manny's game at this point that is better than Richardson's.

- Nucker101

Those need to stop. To add to your points - Carter was part of the Sedin line when the opponent would gameplan to shut down the WCE.

I agree with it all, but what is the stop gap for if you are going to trade away Miller and Vrbata for picks in 1.5 and 2.5 years? Does that not delay an inevitable youth movement? Will the fan base ever be ready for that? Why not start that process now?

Eventhough our prospects are not quality right now I think you got to develop these players in the NHL to truely see what you got.

- bloatedmosquito

I was scratching my head when they signed Miller because of the general direction things looked like at the Draft. I thought they'd bring in someone who Lack can compete with. Miller gives Benning much more of a trading chip though.

Benning wasnt here last year to see Lack consistently and I think he's playing things safe with that position. It's not outside the box thinking to try and provide a winning atmosphere for our kids coming in over the next 3 years as well. Benning knows his GT's and he doesnt want to gamble on Lack having a fall back season. It's pretty common for that to happen... right away he would be the one responsible because we are getting shelled every game.... I'd fkn blame hahahahaha

Turth is, they can trade Miller if needed. Maybe the team doesnt need him after a season.... quick return.

If Lack can live with being a back up for a season or two.... I think the stop gap will be perfect. Lack will be better, Miller will bring in assets.

Vrbata helps the Sedins, helps our PP, helps our SO, and gives the kids someone experienced to play with if he moves through the line up. Short term stop gap... I think we have to look at our bottom six players as the reason we have a log jam. We needed the help on our top six. We got it. Move a bottom 6 to make space.

I think Vrbata slots on the second line - Burrows likely with the twins again...but I'm actually basing this on your comments about each persons game.

Manny was the linchpin of our system when AV was coaching...he took the highest percentage of defenisve faceoffs in the League in his last full season I think and was number two in faceoffs that year. He basically took the puck out of our zone and the twins tore it up.

Again, I think he was the Dennis Rodman of our team (those who have read advanced stat nerd stuff will know what I'm talking about here).

Didn't mean to replace Richardson, he was our best faceoff guy last year. Malhotra led the league in F/O%. Just that now that the wife schtupper is gone, we are a bit thin in that department. If we want to play a possession game, which was a big part of our past success, then we need to win faceoffs. Manny to replace Sestito.

Vrbata is also always amongst the leaders in shots on goal. Something (especially on the power play) that the canucks have been lacking. Playing with 2 of the best passers ever can really help a 'shoot first' guy fill the stat sheet. It was an overpayment but only for 2 years. I like the strategy. I hate to beat a dead horse, but stockpiling high draft picks has really worked well for the oilers, panthers et al.........

All that was meant by the comparison is that AC was an okay player till he played with the Sedins, then had a great year. Got too full of himself and now his job description includes the saying: "would you like fries with that?"

Vrbata was a very good scorer with somewhat suspect linemates. I don't think he's the same kind of player as AC, just that he could have a really great season with a great centreman in Hank.

I'm really excited that the Russian is coming to camp. Shows he wants to be here
- bezz44

He's coming to camp? Nice to see him on paper but we will see.

Shink, Horvat, Cederholm and OConner will be the surprises at young stars tourney.

Good sign that he wants to play at the highest level even though he could potentially make more money at home and have a posse of P..ladies following his wallet everywhere.

Real players want to play in the best league. And maybe he's just not that into Babushka's.

That is what he indicated through his translator. Obviously a long term project but with his size even if he only turns into a 5-6 dman you are looking at a very useful player

I'm still liking the idea of trading one of our goalies to the Jets for the rights to Burmistrov... Carol, please mention the idea to Linden/Benning.

I think folks forget that last year the Twins were in the scoring lead at the start of the season. Not that the Art Ross days are ahead, but I still think that the twins are solid players that will make everyone around them better. $7 mill each was a DEAL. Those guys are future HHOF and they earned a NTC.

Even Burrows I could live with given his history with the team, his original $2mill discount and versatility.

But a NTC for everyone else who has one - WTF?

STEAL more like it (curious as to what Vantel's reaction will be )

Carole, are people voting 2 or 3 times? Because from the various discussions on this board it would seem there are quite a number of people who aren't exactly thrilled with these signings - ok, perhaps the Vrbata one isn't terrible and I realize it's a stop-gap situation, but I think there is a vast majority that don't like the Miller signing). The money is ridiculous for an over the hill goalie who is a self-professed 'moody' type of individual (now ain't that just great - weren't we supposed to be ridding ourselves of these types of attitudes? )

But the worst thing about all of this, is that apparently there really weren't even any significant negotiations (which screams lack of due diligence). I am absolutely sure they could have got him for less money and without a no trade clause. The guy wants to play on the west coast where his #headcheerleader is. And it's not like there are any openings for goalies here - not to mention probably in the entire league (that would pay Miller that type of salary)

Anyway, I realize that there is nothing anyone can do now but hope that everything pans out - particularly in goal, and especially given that crazy contract. I know I''m probably going to get flamed, but after all the excitement and possible options during/after the draft, my excitement has waned (is that a @$@ word, even?) and I'm a bit disappointed with the management
