So moving forward he has a bit of competition. Mathias, Richardson, Horvat.

Richardson will probably be on the 4th line though.

Mathais, richardson and Vey can all play the wing. So there is a ton of competition through our bottom 9

I eventually want a ton of competition in our top 6... Hence replacing guys like Hansen with potential like Burmistrov. Not to mention it gets rid of a contract while upgrading the asset.

Undressing a backchecking 4th line forward and then making a pass is the "Western Family" of highlight reel assists.

Shows the weakness we need to fix. When an AHLer on LA beats a "solid" 4th line centre.

Troy... you can have your Burmistrov dream if i can have my Kevin Hayes dream. Still a free agent i believe.... i know he'll most likely sign with the Flames.... but man it would be great to have him! 65pts in 40games for BC last year

peace?

Wow... Can we sign the guy who keeps feeding him wide open tap-ins?

To set the record straight, I have nothing against Vey & wish him the best. I'm not obsessed with Burmistrov other than I like to look for VALUE additions and his asking price has to be criminally low right now VS his potential. Benning should be looking for creative upgrades across the board. Every position - fill it with a guy that Willie can use to make his on-ice vision come to life in the near future. That's all I care about.

Personally I like Mike Hoffman out of Binghamton Senators.

Benning may have decided he is going to give this group a try but the coach will decide the lines and which young players earned themselves a spot and where. At that point it will be Bennings job to shuffle the roster a bit. Could see a bottom 6 vet being moved to make room for a Jensen, Horvat etc...

If Jensen impresses at camp, I have no doubt they will make room for him. This is what they need, this is what Benning will do.

One thing I would like to see in more rotation of the forwards. Sedins and Burrows, trying to play 82 games a year is nuts Would like, all three to reduced to 72 or close . Maybe on back to back games separate them and give them a night off to rest.

I agree with it all, but what is the stop gap for if you are going to trade away Miller and Vrbata for picks in 1.5 and 2.5 years? Does that not delay an inevitable youth movement? Will the fan base ever be ready for that? Why not start that process now?

Eventhough our prospects are not quality right now I think you got to develop these players in the NHL to truely see what you got.

You'll have to wait until August 15th to see if he signs with the Hawks or not.

Mistreated? was he beat or something?

If a guy is willing to pack it in because things get a bit tough that just shows he doesn't have much fire. Like i said i'm sure he'll put up great numbers in the KHL for the next 10 years.

- Mungo

Give the guy some slack. It's easy to armchair quarterback this. But just try and put yourself in his shoes. The guy is basically a kid, living thousands of miles from home. His career gets stagnated by improper and impatient development and things don't look promising in terms of his future (given the continuing decline in his relationship with management). Would you not make the same decision? Again, the guys WAS/IS still a kid. Maybe it wasn't the best decision in the grande scheme of things but it's also not the end of the world that he decided to return to his home and family, where he's given a proper chance to grow and become a quality player.

I just have to ask, what were you (or any of us) doing when we were 19? 20?

Higgins and Hansen only have limited NTC's. Hamhuis, Edler, Bieksa and Burrows will be tough to convince to waive and even if convinced, I'd imagine they'll be picky about where they'll play which limits the return.
- Nucker101

I think With Burrows you say Let me trade you if he is having a bad year , if he says no you put him on waivers and see if he clears.

I thought it was a great idea, especially since his rights can probably be had for little at this point.

WPG is a poor organization in arguably the 2nd worst NHL city (sorry Detroit) to live in. One look at their free agent activity tells you much about the desirability that players have to play there. If a guy like Burmistrov wanted out and they wouldn't trade him (Chevy seems allergic to trades) then I respect him all the more for heading overseas.

I read an article a year or so back that said Steve Mason was playing with undersized goalie pads for almost 2 seasons because the organization had no goalie coach and were apparently unaware that he could have used bigger padding. His sv% seemed to increase quite a bit shortly after he made the change.

My point here is that poorly run organizations can not only ensure you don't win, they can damage your career. A hockey player doesn't have much time to make what he can before retiring in his 30s and hoping his money will last him for the next 40 or 50 years after that. To claim someone needs to stick it out with an organization that has its head up its ass is poor bordering on insane judgement.

none of these guys have it easy. A lot of them leave their homes when they're 16 years old to play junior. I for one have lived in a foreign country and it's not easy. Just speaking a foreign language for the whole day can be absolutely draining, but I have to say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

Bermistrov lived in NA for 4 years. I don't think you can chalk it up to culture shock at that point. He didn't like how his career was going so he decided to leave. I hope he's happy with his decision, but there's only so many shots you get in the NHL and that's just the facts

I think Tanev is prime for being traded. COrrado Weber Bieksa and the new guy for Carolina if not Utica bound are all RHD . Other teams are in desperate need for RHD

Tanev is the best RHD on this team (best D period from now forward if you ask me). Better be getting a LOT back if you trade him.
