I don't think quotas are allowed in the US. At least in colleges I believe. Schools can set a number they'd like to meet and they can apply bonus points to a resume if the applicant is diverse, but they can't outright accept the best black students until they reach 10% or whatever the number is.

I think generally the way it's supposed to work is an organization sets out what it wants to look like in terms of diversity by a certain point in the future, and sets out to try and recruit from those groups, and not just by applying bonus points, but also recruiting out of more diverse communities as well.


Trying to be more diverse is a good thing, more diversity means a wider range of ideas, and more creativity and innovation.
