The drivers have the phone app and when someone near is looking for an uber, it pops up on the screen and I think its first come-first serve to grab the job if they're willing to do it (so they can decide if the job is worth it for them)

There are other uber services like UberPool in big metropolises so that multiple people making a common route can all join up and save money
