I know that there's a lot of ruckus over the whole uber/taxi thing but the whole medallion/taxi license thing seems (frank)ing outdated.

couple hundred grand to get a license then obviously cost goes through the roof they have to recoup it.

new technology, new competition.

By law, the medallions that are handed out for the actual drivers, they're not allowed to rent them out... but the only people that can afford the medallions are multi-millionaires that own the taxi companies, and rent them out to different drivers... because they sure as hell aren't driving themselves.

Especially when you consider that between paying rent on the cabs and paying for gas, they wind up making below minimum wage.

It's a fantastic business model for the few at the top that make all the money.
