In french, vinegar is spelled vinaigre wich literally is a combination of two words : vin (wine) and aigre (sour). So the definition of vinaigre is literally contained in the word : it's wine that has turned sour.

Vinegar's close ressemblance to it's french counterpart vinaigre is no coincidence, since it is directly derived from it. It is just one of many, many words of the english vocabulary to be directly derived from the french language (one third of all english vocabulary is, in fact).

once had a bird come through the chimney and escape on the unfinished side of the basement. found this all out as i awoke in the morning and was walking into the bathroom to take a shower before work. pretty sure i poop myself as it went zipping by my head.
