Three Ontario sisters say they were stopped by police for biking topless


Three sisters in Ontario are demanding an apology from a police officer who they said stopped the women as they were riding their bicycles topless and told them to cover up.

Alysha Brilla, a Juno-nominated musician and women’s rights advocate, said the incident happened last Friday when she and her two sisters — Tameera and Nadia Mohamed — were biking late in the evening down a quiet street in Kitchener.


The women are also organizing a rally, called Bare With Us, which they hope will help educate the public on the women’s right to be topless, but also broader issues such as women’s pay inequity and safety.

Tameera Mohamed said everyone is welcomed to attend the rally at noon on Saturday in the Waterloo Town Square, including police officers.

To me those are the women's issues to target... being able to go topless is the broader issue

I understand that in NYC there are no laws against being topless in public... and I personally have seen a woman sitting in a time intersection park openly sun tanning on a bench topless in the Village, and IIRC she even had one of those reflective devices to make sure she tanned below her chin -- didn't stick around long enough to see if she later used it below her frontal Boobular Area in the same manner.

In Philly I have also personally witness the Naked Bicycle Day Run as it circled Rittenhouse Square a couple years back... and there was no Police response, as I believe is the norm with it.

And of course breastfeeding is not frowned upon by the law as well as most nonparticipants... and certainly not the diner.

Nothing to see here... please move along, folks.
