We once had Hodgson and Schroeder pencilled in as our future 1-2 center punch with Rodin riding shotgun as a winger in the top 6. Just saying that it's kinda pointless.

If the past few summers are anything to go by, I'm not feeling the love for quality talent at affordable prices on the FA market.

All of the top guys get signed. The UFA market always looks promising 2 years or even 1 year ahead, but once you hit July 1st it's basically a handful of "core" type players and role/depth talent.

I keep seeing Jensen left off the big club. He's gonna earn a spot.
- golfingsince

I hope so. He's my pick out of the young guys to crack the roster.

To be honest the way things are trending in the NHL I think you'll see more teams let their aging guys go a year or two early instead of keeping them 3 years too long. Kind of like Wally Buono.

The kid has the skills, just needs to compete every night. Also, playing with another player or two with some skill on a regular basis might help.

I think so. Ill be disappointed in him if he has another weak camp. The team is not going to pencil him in thats for sure and rightly so.

Jensen won't make the team I'm sorry. He turns the puck over way way way too much. If that gets fixed this off season I'm wrong but if I'm betting on you guys I'm picking vey and shink. I believe a top 4 de and Jensen get moved for a top 6

Dan Murphy apparently was suggesting that Gulutzan had very little say on the staff last year, even the PP.
- Nucker101

Hence why he remained and the others were ousted. One on one interviews and he probably told Linden the truth. I think people saw the deal before JT and co got bounced. Quality people get recognized quickly.

Doubt it, with the cap going up and some teams getting out of bad contract using compliance buyouts, I predict most of the core guys will get locked up over the next 2-3 years. After that we'll see. But for now I think it will be similar to the current UFA class.

IMO it could get interesting down the road once some teams get saddled with bad long-term contracts again and the cap stops rising.

Your f@cked if you think he can't make it he would be the first on the team. I said Shink was my dark horse but only because I thought Jensen was a lock.

I think he'll have a better camp with having a guy like Willie running things over Torts. That said, probably not a bad thing the young guys last year had drill sargeant John asking them to be in shape.

Yes but all those hopes we had for the Gillis regime which were cruelly dashed have now been placed on the Benning regime with interest.

I think much of this is already happening. People are looking at teams like the Flyers and Leafs that just used a round of compliance buyouts to get out of bad deals and into new bad deals.

Also, teams like the Canucks and Sharks that just extended their aging stars at a poor time.

A lot of good offensive player have a decent mount of TO's, if you play too much of a safe game you resort to "Torts hockey", dump and chase. Good luck creating much offense solely from the dump/chase and cycle game. You have to take some risks in the offensive zone. Doing it in your own zone is stupid, but limiting your player's creativity in the offensive zone is gonna lead to some dull hockey and a slow paced game for your team.

He's still young, best way for him to learn is to ply through it in the NHL as long as he's not out of place and earns his spot.

What about his hockey sense? If anything his offensive zone positioning without the puck is solid, he gets himself into areas where he can use his shot for a scoring chance. Something a lot of our forwards struggled to do these past 2 seasons. Defensively, he needs to be smarter for sure but as a young winger he can get away with it and work on it.
