Tanev > Hamhuis
Tanev played 379 fewer ES mins than Hamhuis (& spent those mins on the ice with abolute bums), yet still scored just 3 fewer points (16v19). Tanev played 133 fewer PP mins than Hamhuis and AGAIN, scored just 3 fewer points (0v3)).
Defensively, nobody on the team is better than Tanev. He can mirror any skater in the league 1 on 1. Hamhuis can't. They're both positionally sound enough to make up for playing with an unreliable partner.
Also, Tanev is the only dman we have that's a legit threat to lead a rush (just wait 'til the system allows him to...) but he can also make a great 1st pass. Hamhuis sits back & makes that pass, but creates little else.

HEY VRBATA IF YOU'RE READING THIS I REALLY THINK YOU'D BE A BETTER FIT ON OUR 2ND LINE WITH BONINO! IT'S NOT A KNOCK AGAINST YOU AT ALL IT'S JUST THAT I THINK STYLE-WISE YOU'D BE A BETTER FIT AWAY FROM THE SEDINS AT LEAST AT EVEN STRENGTH AND BETTER WITH PLAYER WHO CAN GENERATE SOME SCORING CHANCES OFF OF THE RUSH. THANKS MAN. - Nucker101

I'm a huge fan of Tanev in every sense the kid is solid but to say he's better then hammy is just crazy talk to me.. Hammy over the past few years is always the one bright spot on the back end we have .. The guy is a sound and solid as they come |

just like last year was a perfect storm for how our season went. This year could be the opposite. I dont normally blog but the greenfield thinking was fun, and if they are well coached anything could happen.

Oh I admit it goes against what everyone is thinking and how the last few years have gone. But they dont have horrible players and they have added in every key area. Thats why it has the potential. They could very well be this years cinderella story. |

Hammy is unspectacularly solid. Tanev can be & will be spectacular. We're going to regret the 1yr/2mill deal because after next season Tanev will easily be able to justify being the highest paid dman on this team. |

Hamhuis generally plays against top lines, Tanev generally doesn't. If/when Tanev can be effective against the best lines in the league then I'll agree in full. It remains an IF at this point though IMO. |

I was heavily advocating for Ladd when I heard he was being shopped by CHI. Gillis didn't read by HB comments. Now we won't get Ladd. |

CHI-VAN was arguably the biggest rivalry in the NHL back then, don't think there was a deal to be made without a severe overpayment. |

They should be better, but the rest of the West didn't exactly stand pat or get weaker.
- Kings get Gaborik for a full season, lost Mitchell though.
- Hawks added Brad Richards who is still solid as a 2LC, nice upgrade on Handzus
- Ducks got Kesler, also have some youth that will all be a year older, also a lucky/high PDO
- Avs also had a very high/lucky team PDO as well, lost Stastny and PAP, added Briere and Iggy
- Blues added Stastny, lost Milller/Roy/Ott who pretty much sucked for them
- Stars added Spezza
- Minny added Vanek, might suck in the playoffs but a legit 30 goal scorer.
- Sharks lost Boyle, could be a "stale" team but still very talented.
Canucks would have to finish ahead of one of those teams to make it. |

There are 3 options
Bottom dwellers
perform as expected which is be mediocre and finish outside the top 8
or be the Cinderella story and finish higher than expected, I think we could push for 6 and surprise a few teams.
I am making NO claims on playoff outcomes at this time. My prophecy is strictly regular league standings. And to that point, I think we struggle a little out of the gate, then win a few and then drop back again. That is when the team starts to click. Look for end of Nov to find our legs and really, when we see the new WD system start to take affect. |

I think the Canucks have a good chance to finish higher than one of those teams. MIN still hasn't really sorted out their goaltening situation and, like you said, SJ has become a bit stale. |

For our division, Anaheim and LA will be tough to beat. But we may have a shot at SJ. Which means we also play better than Phoenix (and Calgary/Edmonton). That is where there is a possiblity. We are lucky we are not in the Central Division right now with the addititions. But I am not sold on Co being a #1 team. I thought they over performed and Minny is more of a wild card. However Dallas looks a little tougher this year. |

Not in terms of players with contracts. CHI blew past the cap that year so only prospects and picks would have been accepted. They could have had a package with Grabner and picks as the centerpiece. Imagine getting Ladd instead of Ballard for all those years. Too many ifs in this hypothetical though. |

Yes it does.
This site is better though IMO, they adjust it so that they only count "close" situations(when a game is within 1 goal) and also adjust for zone starts.

Not disagreeing, but stranger things have happened. I'd bet a substantial amount of money that Gillis didn't even make a call. |

Probably would have had a HUGE difference in the 2011 SCF
But we aren't allowed to talk about that around here anymore... |
