without trying to be too ohhh hes a pens fan so hes obviously trolling, i think a lot of people will be happy if morin develops into coburn.
- stayinthefnnet

Yep.

Plus at best you're talking about the 31st pick. The players referenced are A. Not proven yet at all, B. Not 31st picks and C. Cautiously considered potential steals.

That is a terrible idea and sets the D back another few years while our forwards will be ready to go in very soon. What would be great is to have our young forward and D peak at the same time while having a constant flow of reinforcements, now figure out a strategy for that please.

yup nail on the head there.

trolls typically go onto other teams boards to extol the positive attributes of other teams players?

i must be slightly misinformed.

don't you see the problem then? "he's bad but he's not that bad" why not move on and try to acquire a better dman
- 2Real

What? If it were this simple, it would already be done. It's no secret the Flyers are in the market for a number 1 defenseman but they don't grow on trees.

so who would have thought you'd have to draft and develop your own

I'm surprised I haven't see more Vinny + D man + prospects/picks for Green out of Wash rumours/suggestions. Wash needs a second line center and we need a R handed potential number one. I can't see a deal where they would take what I would offer but I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed more.

I'm not sure I understand your argument.

Coburn is a 29 year old top pair defenseman right now, who's damn good at what he does. We don't need another Gostisbehere, or another Morin, or another Hagg or another Sanheim because for starters there are four of them, none of them can step in and replace Coburn right now and Coburn isn't in decline.

Patience patience patience.

Just want to remind everyone.

Laughton, ghost, hagg. Keep the in the ahl this year for the majority.

This is going to take years

Don't see Laughton needing much if any AHL time.

You would know better than me. But I like what Hexy said in that it never hurt any young player to spend some extra time in the ahl.

Its not about what we see on the ice, but rather grooming a young man to be a true professional. Like a right of passage

Would any of you approach Scott Laughton's development next season the same as Mike Richards minus deeming him our next future Captain. Third line center and PK time just seems like a must.

I am not saying he won't spend sometime down with the Phantoms, but I also think he offers more to them then a Rinaldo or Rosehill even if it's just the 4th line

One thing he did very well even with it only being the 5 game trying during the short season he handled himself very well with his defensive responsibility, he went back to juniors to work on his overall game and his offense and did just that with Oshawa.

If that's how they used him to start I wouldn't have any issues,

So to summarize, MacDonald gives up the blueline too much, making his other contributions to the team moot. Isn't great in the D zone. His positioning can be suspect, he tends to lose his man, and he can get beat 1 on 1.
So I have three questions. Why did the Flyers trade for this players and sign him to a deal for 5M a year? And how does Bill Clement, a former NHL player, see a completely different player? Why do they see the opposite of what you see in the player?

- MJL

I'm sure you've read it, but:

I don't see how you could argue that he doesn't have issues yielding the blueline when Schenn and Grossmann are playing closer gaps and they are much slower players.

Unfortunately, we have no room for him to center the third line with Vinny and Schenn still on the roster.

Unless you can push Couturier up to the 2nd line, I think Laughton is going to be your 4th line center.

The summer isn't over yet and regardless to whether Schenn is here or not, I think he's forced to wing because of Lecavalier and how weak we are on the left side.

All I was saying is that without moving at least one of the two, Laughton will be a fourth line center or in the AHL.
