So because Peter Chiarelli mismanaged his cap, the trade was bad? Was Seguin a star player after scoring 32 points in 48 games and one goal in 22 playoff games, which was when they traded him?

Maybe they pulled the trigger early, but again, where were the "Bruins looking bad in Seguin deal" when they were 54-19-3 this season?

Or when they were third in the NHL in goals scored and second in goals allowed?

It's not Smith or Eriksson's fault that Boston is looking for a winger. It's revisionist history to look at what the B's accomplished without Seguin and say, "oh, my gosh, they sure missed him!"

They didn't. At all.

- AllInForFlyers

It's not uncommon for a young player to have some ups and downs in the course of his development. The bottom line is that Boston traded a top player. And who said anything about blaming Smith or Ericksson? And Seguin is what, 22 years old? LOL Some of those comments don't make a lot of sense. He's 22 years old, and just put up a 37 goal, 84 point season. When dealing with trading a player that is a budding star at 20 years old, it's about the future. And they could use a player like Seguin right now for the Wing, and it would also help if they didn't have to deal with nearly 4M in bonus overages.

They will now. They'll miss both Iginla and Seguin now.

Don't forget Boychuk, McQuaid, Campbell, Paille, and Krejci are all free agents come next season. Who goes, who stays...

All of them. They're all terrible. Or maybe they get traded.

Just sayin'.. could really affect the look of the roster in the near future.

Although I'd make a case for Krejci... He might enter FA looking for a raise and end up somewhere else. But then again, maybe Boston will increase an offer.. who knows..

It's odd how it's assumed that Tyler Seguin is going to keep playing well and not be an issue off the ice, which was what got him dealt in the first place, but Eriksson or Smith won't get even better, or Fraser will develop.

Character is a funny thing. Some guys grow up, fly straight. Some guys fake it for a season to prove a team wrong...and can't sustain it.

We'll see what Tyler Seguin's true character is, going forward. We'll see what the B's do, going forward.

But personally? They're gonna find a winger. And they're gonna be just fine until Chara's play slips, not because Tyler Seguin's gone.

- AllInForFlyers

What information do you have to indicate that he won't continue to play well? And how has Seguin been an issue of the ice to this point in Dallas?

Sure they can find a Winger. But how does that replace trading a star player, because they lost patience?

They can't move him both for financial and PR reasons, not to mention that he should have won the Norris last year.

He's been in Dallas for one season -- that's not a track record of sustained success. He's had one good season for them. Let's see him do it again when people expect him to do it and he's gotten comfortable.

They'll probably break into the teens after they update the rankings to reflect 2014...

Very satisfied with their draft. They've given themselves a good chance of getting at least 1 top 6 dman/top 9 forward after the first round

I think he means when players graduate to the nhl. A guy like Drouin is a top prospect but will be in the nhl once the season starts. No prospect on the flyers except Laughton will be with the flyers next season in all likelihood

Bostons a joke. They should be emulating the flyer model. Maybe they can cry over a big bowl of ice cream while watching their 2011 cup run video

Luke Schenn might still be the next Adam Foote... it's just too bad Adam Foote wouldn't be a top-4 defenseman in the post-2008 NHL.
- Tomahawk

So you're saying that in today's game Foote would be a 3rd pair defenseman? If so I couldn't disagree less. Foote would be a top pairing defenseman in today's game. Just as he was in his prime in his playing days.

Really, so with the Bruins trading Seguin when he was what 20 years old, they didn't give up the future of that player? And bringing up the Flyers is non-sensical. That has zero to do with the Bruins or the Seguin trade.
So if the folks in Boston were polled about last season, and how it ended. Do you think the results would be the season was a success or a failure? I'm pretty sure how last season ended left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. From the fans, to the players, to the team hierarchy.
