Just shy of under 2 decades under Darcy and only now is something to show for it, cup winning coaches and GM's have been fired for less. |

That was a great read.
Darcy was awesome at getting max value. Only major problem was not going for it all and betting some of his assets to get to the top when in position.
Hopefully, he does not dismantle the Coyotes and complete for McDavid/Eichel! |

You know I like this article. It's well written and covers a very interesting subject.
I think it will be material for an interesting update at 2015, and at 2016. - Der Kaiser
Blogs that actually prompt discussions. Such a novel concept! And this is coming from someone who never complained about any of the previous bloggers. |

He's not the decision maker in that group. Maloney is. |

Kudos on selling when they did. And they also have a good chance in the McDavid sweeps |

Hard not to like what they're doing in Buffalo. Already a great prospect core with some solid nhl players and a bunch of high picks in next year's very deep draft. I hope tampa can capitalize on their window of opportunity here before buffalo really gets going they'll be scary |

Absolutely true.
This is a textbook example of how to deconstruct and rebuild a team.
Too bad the Leafs have never bothered to read that textbook - jnwood2517

Michael, another solid blog! I look forward to them. Keep up the GREAT work.
I am amazed at the haul both GMs received for that core group, who under achieved regularly...and with the Wild acquiring a couple notable ones, I think that team will never reach the promised land either. (Has Roy signed anywhere yet?)
For me, it is exciting to watch the rebuild take place as TM now assembles the pieces for the Sabres to contend for many years...and unlike his predesessor is acquiring heart and soul players driven to succeed. The future is bright...Go Sabres! |

I can see Homer doing something like that..........except that he would be on the other side getting all those veterans and trading away picks and prospects. Now you have what you have in Philly!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Can't credit Regire for the Miller trade, that was TM.
Not so sure that the return from STL was quite "Darcy worthy" anyways..
One has to think that Regire would have fielded two 1st rd picks with that ammo, a 1st for Miller & a 1st for Ott. - SuperCat
What he got was better than two first round picks. |

Not a chance you can think that. The market sets the value. Teams were/are hesitant to give up 2015 first round picks/the farm for rental players last year.
Murray actually got one of the best values out of the Moulson/Vanek/Gaborik sweeps.

I think you guys are pretty much there. If you can duplicate our defense, and we can duplicate your offense, we'll be clashing in the ECFs for a long time. |

Can Toronto afford to re-build? Honest question. This is not a shot at Toronto fans, but the fan base would "cripple" if Toronto went into rebuild mode. They seem not to be all that patient. |

It didn't have to be 2015 firsts. It could have been 2014 firsts. But even so, a draft pick is always just speculation.

I'd say yes. The corporate boxes would be renewed, and a number of fans would relish the idea of building a perennial contender, and methinks would come out once the new blood arrived on the ice. |
