Agreed with the fact Drury and Briere were not signed, but we know now that wasn't Darcy's choice...that was mister bright star Larry F'g Quinn's directive to balance costs and revenues. That A-hole cost the city of Buffalo a chance at sniffing a championship.
Then Darch had to choose one, and he lost big timebuy playing it badly...that part is squarely on him..Drury F'd him bad. - IonSabres
yep. those were colossal loses. |

Harrington has given up his trolling attempts at the Sabres. He has now stooped down to the Atlantic Hockey League:
Mike Harrington @BNHarrington · 31m
No Canisius-Niagara at @Harborctr? THIS year? Hey, @Atlantic_Hockey, you're a garage league.
Details
Best way to reply? You troll a troll:
Atlantic Hockey @Atlantic_Hockey · 12m
@BNHarrington Your wife likes us, though! She goes to all the games.
In case you are wondering. Canisius plays Niagara at home after the new year at the Harbor Center. What Harrington is mad at the rivalry between Canisius and Niagara wont play in the new building right away...I would love to see Harrington try to come up with an 11 team schedule involving travel from teams as far west as Air Force (Colorado). Not to mention each team has their own little written laws like Niagara doesn't want to play at home when their basketball team is playing at home and things like that.
This just proves that Harrington is the biggest POS in journalism in the Buffalo area. |

Yeah... July 1st 2007 might be one of the worst days in Buffalo sports history... The Sabres haven't recovered yet and its been 7 years! Now of course we are finally on the right track.. but in terms of being as good as we were then we haven't even really sniffed it.. We did win the division in I think 2009 but those teams were never that good. I blame Quinn and Darcy for sure but Drury is the Brutus of that situation.. Never welcome back in Buffalo as far as I'm concerned.. |

It's been established Harrington is not one of favorites but seriously how is someone like him employeed to be a "professional writer". He has no idea how hard it is to schedule a league like that especially since the NHL plays right across the street. I am sure he doesn't have the capacity to realize that they probably dont want to play at the same time the Sabres are home either. The guy is a joke. |

They actually got McCabe in the Regehr trade for Butler and Byron. I had to put this in here because the blog said that we traded up seven spots in the first, and only moved back two in the second, which would require the GM from Calgary to be fired. Calgary had already traded us their second, and that's why they wanted another second and were willing to move back in the first to get it. Otherwise, good read. - SDSabre

How could the sabres have the top ranked minor league system and prospects? Maybe at defense but no way at forward, The Amerks have zero scoring forwards. Armia can't score yet but I do feel he will improve, guys like Luke Adam have zero chance to make the NHL and the rest of the Amerks are all vets with no shot at NHL or they are 5'1". Forwards the sabres are majority lacking in prospects. People will talk about some guy they drafted next year and blah blah the guy looks like a future captain playing for his college team etc...In the real world the sabres are lacking in scoring forwards, even darcy said that walking out the door, he said the defense looks good for the future but at forward they need work. It's not like Buffalo has a guy burning up the AHL in scoring like Tampa did with the AHLs leading goal scorer in 2012 or the Red Wings with last year with Gustav Nyqvist. Larrsons isn't any type of big time scorer, we shall see if any of the Amerks guys actually score 20 goals next year, Girgensons couldn't even get 10 goals in the AHL. - MrSquirrel
it ends up going a bit deeper than just the ahl...they look at players at all levels...
but, point taken

Sullivan can be an arrogant wiener at times, but he at he makes a a concerted effort to do his research. He never seemed to be much of a hockey fan until he came here (as shown by his love of the NBA and his disdain for the fact that it isn't more popular here), and so his conclusions about the Sabres and the sport of hockey in general can come off as misguided and rub people the wrong way. That doesn't excuse him, but he is miles better than Harrington as a writer and a journalist. Granted, the bar is only six inches off the ground, but still... |

His logic is squirrelly. Why would we have a foward on our ahl team if he was tearing it up lol. Puts wayy to much emphasis on the ahl. I believe buffalo had consecutive players win the ahl MVP award. 1 being gerbe. Man we were loaded with great fowards lol |

Three in a row
Gerbe
Ennis
Luke Adam
Then we also picked up Adams successor in conacher last season for a run at him.
Ahl ROY is not how I would rate any prospects. |

Serious question... How are we ranked #1 in prospect pool? Yes we have a fantastic group of D but what about scoring top 6 forwards? |

Yup, once in 17 years, when coincidently the league changed the rules to benefit the Sabres roster. Wasn't complaining back then as it was GREAT FUN. But then the ownership in Philly and Boston lead a revolt and we are now back to the clutch/hold/interfere league....which they were not prepared for.
I agree Darcy had his ups and downs with player acquisition and that 2005 2006 team was awesome. Once though, in 17 years. Now, the Sabres seem hell bent for leather in acquiring character and high compete players...to which I am extremely happy about. That is why I keep saying this is fun to watch the team being built through the rebuild...reminds me of 1971.. And those next seasons were awesome to watch! - IonSabres
Your point being? He still did it. He took this team to the East finals how many times as well? Stanley Cup finals once. How many division titles. Seriously give credit when credit is due. Regier was never given the opportunity to make a Stanley Cup contender so he did it his way and it worked. The rebuild was on the right track with Regier. I think he would have gotten more for Miller and Ott. Only reason he was fired was because of fans chanting FIRE DARCY at games. |

No team is loaded with sure fire top 6 prospects. We have a few potentials several bottom 6 forwards as you said a fantastic group of d and a few decent goalies. All that adds up to better than most if not all other teams. |

Coaches and GM's shouldn't have unlimited time to win. They didn't win. Yes Regeir made some good moves. He also made some pretty bad ones, and held onto players for way too long. |

His trades were for the most solid on our end. It was his dealing with roster players and contract extensions that really sucked. |
