The point is that Ott isn't going to make them any better or worse than they are already. He's a non-factor, and unnecessary. - buffalofan19
But he is entertaining to watch , when he gets under peoples skins . A little amusement will not hurt our feelings this year.

I have a hard time seeing that though. I'm not in the group that believes this team is capable of being 5 pts out of 8th with a week left but I can't see them being the 30th place team again.
On paper right now it looks that way but the way i see it, the only way this team could finish dead last again (i mean like no contest last place) is if none of the younger players take a step forward, which would be incredibly alarming.
3-6th overall is where i see them depending on whether someone has a breakout year or the number of teams that under perform. - Sabresfan-365
Seems we might have some exciting hockey to watch this season. |

I agree, unless they sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal and move him at the deadline again, talk about all business. - Sabresfan-365
That is true. I guess Tim Murray might be smart to sign him if only to take advantage of the playoff teams that subscribe to his nonexistent track record of turning his leadership qualities into wins. |

If history has taught us anything it's that no matter what kind of season his type of player has, he'll always be able to fetch at the very least a 2nd rounder.
Even meszaros in the midst of one of his worst season got a 3rd rounder.
Could be looking at two top 60 picks for nothing, does sound a lot like something Tim Murray would want. |

Question. Based on all the posters that want the players traded for better picks ALL the time. It's gonna take a few years before the 18-20yr olds are taking over the team. Sure we have Moulson and Gionta for a few years . But hope some of them step up sooner than we are used too.
are we going to shopping for leaders every year ? |

I realize that's your opinion, and you're more than welcome to it, but I think that's being a little harsh.
Ott is a leader. How do I know? It's obvious. He's a stand up guy with the media. Was all season, during the worst of the worst. The young kids see that, learn from that and look up to that.
To call him unnecessary and a non factor is off base, imo.
I do think, though, that they may not sign him unless they deal someone else. But if they don't, let me pose this to you: would you rather see Mitchell (who they could easily send to Rochester) or Ott?
It's Ott, for me. |

I think true leadership of a contending team is built within a core of several leaders who can lead this team both offensively and in the locker room. Gionta, Gorges and sure let's say Ott are all nice voices to have in the locker room for the kids, but leadership goes beyond that of a pat on the back from some sweaty old dude who has been around the block. Their "locker room inspiration" can only take this team so far. When this team really starts to compete again it will have to be led by the guys being trusted with top 6/top 4 roles. It's ultimately why our last core failed. When it counted the most, as a collective group, they failed time after time. |

Serious question... How are we ranked #1 in prospect pool? Yes we have a fantastic group of D but what about scoring top 6 forwards? - Smittyx36
It's the entire balance of our players that gives us the best pool. Yes we're missing elite scorers, which is why it's questionable we're number one. I would easily say top 3, but 1 is arguable. After 2015.. it's guaranteed 1. |

I really, really hate them, but that was a superb win. Netherlands are my last hope for a triple crown here, what a sweet way to do it if they can beat the germans in the finals |

I think that's what they were looking for though. Which team shows the best depth and least amount of glaring weaknesses. Incoming elite talent is imminent at this point but when you look at the rest of the pool, other than perhaps goaltending you can't really find a glaring weakness. |

That would be an epic finale, not to mention the geographical significance. |
