what do you suppose happened this year that prevented murray from moving back into the first round? everybody has seen those charts that suggest the values for each pick (ie the 10th overall is worth approximately the 17th overall and the 35th). i would like to see murray parlay a couple of those picks into a player that has a geater probability of hitting. need a dance partner though.

He said he offered a team all three 2nds to move back into the first, and said team didn't bite. The answer is that GM's pay no attention to that chart.

Now that Central Scouting's futures list is officially released, what's the over under on the amount of times that McDavid and Eichel trade spots at 1 & 2? As we all have seen for the past couple of years, NHL teams don't seem to take their rankings very seriously, and they seem to exist more as headline grabbers than anything else.

I totally disagree with all/most of this.

A flooded market didn't hurt, the value of M. st.Louis, or Vanek early in the yr. did it? Yet in every case last yr, the scoring wingers who were delt closer to the deadline yielded less. It was supply & demand. The smart play was to strike quick, still that's totally in control of a GM. But that doesn't mean a good return was unheard of, just trickier to navigate.

To peg Vanek as the scapegoat for MTL's loss to the NYR is ill-informed as well. That series had everything to do with Cary Price being injured by a NYR cheap shot. Price is amongst the top goalies in the league, & MTL needed him to keep pace with Lundquist... Simple as that.

Vanek got less because Wang refused to retain money in the deal. Per reports, Snow had better deals lined up if he'd have retained money. He couldn't, hence why he got as little for him as he did.

I think McDavid stays, although I think Eichel is one hell of a prospect too.

Next year it will be different, no one besides those two will be ranked in the top 2 IMO. As opposed to Draisaitl being the #1 at some points mid-season, then to Bennett, then finally to Ekblad. I think it's McDavid and Eichel.... Sort of like RG3 and Luck

I was also thinking that, but that is the only slim chance that either one gets booted from the top 2 spots. It's even slimmer that Eichel takes over the chosen McDavid too. Unless Eichel puts up 300 points this year.
