He's not the decision maker in that group. Maloney is. - buffalofan19
If you think Regier doesn't have the power to make decisions in Arizona then you are sorely mistaken. |

3 1st round picks in this years draft with the open lottery style...
your sayin there's a chaaaaance??? - JVince11
St Louis won't be picking in the lottery. Islanders have improved everywhere but defense add that to a healthy Tavares then I think you got yourself a playoff team. Plus Reinhart may be up next season for them as well. So don't settle on the high hopes just yet.

Can't credit Regire for the Miller trade, that was TM.
Not so sure that the return from STL was quite "Darcy worthy" anyways..
One has to think that Regire would have fielded two 1st rd picks with that ammo... a 1st for Miller & then another 1st for Ott. - SuperCat
Correction he did field two 1st rounders ( if the blues made it to the finals) which looked like a verrry good possibility at the time of the trade when they added miller and ott to an already killer roster!!

Miller now has not won a playoff series in 7 years |

NYI downgraded... They didn't fill the role of Moulson/Vanek.

Michael, another solid blog! I look forward to them. Keep up the GREAT work.
I am amazed at the haul both GMs received for that core group, who under achieved regularly...and with the Wild acquiring a couple notable ones, I think that team will never reach the promised land either. (Has Roy signed anywhere yet?)
For me, it is exciting to watch the rebuild take place as TM now assembles the pieces for the Sabres to contend for many years...and unlike his predesessor is acquiring heart and soul players driven to succeed. The future is bright...Go Sabres! - IonSabres
What are you talking about? Darcy always acquired heart and soul types. Lydman, Gilmour, McCormick, Ott, Drury, Hecht etc. if anything we had to many of those types over the years. Regier's mistakes came from horrible ownership. He assembled the president winning sabres and Stanley Cup favourites from scratch. |

How is losing Nabokov, Vanek and MacDonald while adding Johnson, Conacher, Halak, Grabovski and Kulemin a downgrade?
Only downgrade I see is defense. Kulemin, Conacher and Grabovski will easily replace Vanek's offense. Halak and Johnson are a HUGE upgrade over Nabokov. |

Halak has never started more than 57 games in a season and always has some type of nagging injury/s he's dealing with. Can Johnson put up similar Boston numbers on the Island? That is the question. Conacher is on his 4th team in a 2 yr period. Kulemin and Grabovski are meh.
Are they in a better position? yeah maybe.
Can they make the playoff's? Sure but no higher than 7/8 IMO. They look more like a 9/10 honestly. |

Islanders are tough to judge.
Okposo could fall back to his normal, Strome could be huge, Reinhart could make the team
IMO a big move for them would be to trade a prospect and pick to CHI for Jonny Oduya |

4yrs from now it will be Buffalo, Tampa & Florida fighting it out for division supremacy while teams like Boston have to rebuild
Montreal seems to always be good, but not good enough

NYI plays like NYI and fails again in a season that isn't 48 games long. |

I agree to all the above statements.
However, this is the New York Islanders we are talking about here.
They are well known for self-destruction, so there is hope my fellow Sabres fans, there is hope! |

i still think they are a bottom 10 type team. those players are decent additions but their D will prob struggle. Halak will look very average with that type of D in front of him |
