I'm happy they'll both be back for the long term, but $21M in cap hit between them? Stan will REALLY be hitting the dumpsters after next season. - Q...argh
It is what it is - now Stan knows what he has to do the next several years - probably knows who he wants to move to get under.
Now we get to see how good a GM he is. |

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane are now the highest-paid players in NHL history. #Blackhawks - hawkshossa81
And, in five years, they won't be in the top 10. |

Aaand after you remove Sharp's 5.9 cap hit.....and Oduya's 3.3....that makes it 56mil to 13 players....bring on the Hogs! Danault....Teravainen....McNeil....or trade for some lower line guys etc...Dahlbeck, Johns, and maybe they trade for another Rozy veteran type at a lower cap hit - captainserious
Woops....Oduya is already gone then...my fault! |

People should be happy and not freaking out, they had to be resigned. $10.5 isn't the end of the world and it's much deserved for each of them. They've accomplished more than Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, etc.
I'd much rather be in the position we're going to be in, having to carefully balance the roster, than have no talent like we did for ages.
Enjoy it, two of the best, if not the best, players in the NHL just committed to playing here another 8 years. |

The Chicago Homer @TheChicagoHomer 1m
Kane/Toews would be 3rd highest paid player on White Sox (Dunn, Danks) and 2nd highest paid player on Cubs (EJax). |

Evander Kane is 22 years old ? And a bad ass power forward. I know he is a turd but so was Kane at 22. Eveander Kane shot the puck on goal 260+ times last year , something the Hawks sorely need even with the addition of Richards is to get the puck to the net and see what happens. EKane puts pressure on opposing D behind their own net. EKane could do very well around the leadership of Toews.
TT is 165 lbs soaking wet.
But again , the $ wouldn't work for the Hawks . - mrpaulish
Thanks again, but I guess my point being was that TT is not really a proven top prospect that you guys have, so to put him in a package for a proven player is a no-brainer.
Ex.. TT is no Strome, Druin, etc... but has that ability to maybe be.. right??? |

If they don't mess with our top 4 D (specifically, Oduya), it shouldn't be fatal. We had 1.5 D pairings in 2010-11 through 11-12, and we suffered for it. We have also lost defense down the middle in the offseason. Chopping needs to come from the wings, IMO. |

@FriedgeHNIC: AAV for both is 10.5 - DarthKane
Good $hit Moses, that's another rostered player gone.
Can they make the numbers with just Sharp and Leddy going for picks? Hmmmm. |

I think it may be an issue during the first year but as the cap keeps going up the deal will not be looked upon as being a detriment to success.......the cap increased 5 million from last season to this season...assuming the league maintains this increase from here on out.....next year it will be 74...the year after 79....
This probably means Sharp and/or Seabrook will be gone.....but with the emergence of Saad and hopefully a defensive prospect to step up in the near future.....lots of ifs but it's not the end of the hawks by no means.....

I dont care if they were in line with projections or guesses
so much for the "Kane and Toews need to take less to stay competitive"
This is hardly a deal or hometown discount for the blackhawks - FourFeathers773
As I stated in a previous thread: Anyone believing that they would take a "hometown discount" were greatly fooling themselves. These are two established, elite, superstars in this league where if they were on the open market would have gotten more money. We aren't talking about Brad Richards who needed to take a discount to prove himself. |
