My thoughts exactly. - John Jaeckel
Sharp.
Leddy.
Oduya.
or any combo of Sharp Leddy
Oduya Sharp .
Gotta shed 3m here people from players that teams actually would want . |

Here's another thought....
As Bowman has been handing out these contracts to Toews, Kane, Crawford etc. they certainly have a good idea where the cap is going to be or what is going to happen. If they don't, the entire front office is ridiculously inept. |

It was brought up....if all of the goalies mentioned played for the hawks and won a cup, would they too not ask for $6M per? - eburgio

Fire commish was always barking at the old man, Arthur that is, about exceeding capacity in the old barn. So many a game, years actually, the 'announced' attendance was 16,666. A couple decades later when 'capacity' was 17,317, they "allowed" up to 18,472 in the barn but the all time high attendance was 20,960 for a 1982 playoff game vs the Minnnnnasota North Stars... - blackhawk24
Im so Thankful I got to catch a dozen games at the old Stadium .
11 Hawks games and one Team USA Canada Cup game vs. Russia ( That was awesome)
In 6th grade they tore it down
So Sad. |

Amen. JR must be happy and sad at the same time today. - Hemingways
Jr signed in Phoenix for exactly what Wirtz was offering. Wirtz offered 3.5 and JR laughed. Wirtz said well, then show me what the market is. Then JR shot off his mouth. Wirtz told Bob Murry to get rid of him today. So the trade involving Zhamnov and JR happened. Then JR signs for 3.5 per with Phoenix. If it wasn't for hockey JR would be working at Burger King. And if it wasn't for his big mouth his number would be in the rafters about now. Everyone goes on and on about the money with Bill Wirtz. He spent money (didn't get his moneys worth a lot of the time). It's the attitude he wouldn't tolerate. He took no poop from anyone. Arthur Wirtz his father was the cheapskate. And it was Mike Wirtz that paid everyone, not Bill. |

I would still not be terribly surprised to see P. Sharp on the next Air Canada 737 to Ottawa. or some other Eastern Conference destination. Possibly Oduya. Possibly Leddy. - John Jaeckel
Pick one: 8 or 27. Who do you think actually gets moved? |

Hawks had no choice, you would have hoped for a discount, but it didn't happen.
15 players signed next year at around 65 million already spent. So probably 8 million more based on a 73 million cap for 8 guys. That is tough.
Gonna be harder and harder for teams to roll out 4 quality lines, because other teams are gonna over pay the premier teams bottom 2 line guys when they hit UFA trying to find that winning attitude.
Drafting and development is all the more critical as teams move forward.

$10.5 can be seen as a home town discount. Particularly when you look at what both players would bring on the open market next year. They could both easily see 12 plus.
$10.5 is definitely more reasonable than yesterday's 10.8 reports. Even $600k helps the cap situation though it is still constricting. - tredbrta
I hope Kane knows that TT is likely his 2C after this year. |

2/3/95 and so it began. I was there along with a few dozen other diehards. Got a chance to again say hi and shake hands with the now late-great Maggie, Keith Magnuson. Then upon seeing dollar bill, I felt I had to share an unpleasantry with him. Knowing I had helped him finance the tearing down of the Stadium with the purchase of one of the banners, made me feel all the more the sucker and pissed off. |

... and precisely the reason Bowman has held such a high regard for draft picks and development of players.
Also makes the Rundblad trade all the more interesting. |

JJ,
does a Sharp and Leddy for Greening, Z. Smith and future 1st get it done? |
|
|
|
JJ: I BELIEVE this to be correct... but isn't there a cap on the max contract you can offer a player?
I had a buddy tell me that these two might have gotten 13-15 on the open market. I do not believe a team could offer that amount.

Just to Devils Advocate this on e, who would take Steeg or Rozy ? Seriously . Don't laugh . - mrpaulish
Exactly! They would have to add pieces just to get a team to Versteeg the way he played. He will be here to start the season. If he plays better maybe he gets moved. If not, waivers is probably the only answer and that only saves them $900k. Olsen and Hayes should have fetched more. So far, it looks like Bowman gambled and lost.
I hope the staff gave Versteeg a serious warning after the playoffs to take his off season training very seriously this year. |

Only other choice would have been a huge roll of the dice and dealing Kane. Otherwise, you had to pay them. This FO will pay it's stars and not rock the boat. But anyone thinking this is 'good" from an overall roster standpoint is wrong.
Now, whether you're a believer in the Great Hawk Prospect Dream or not, you better hope it works.
