I just don't believe the team that's clicking on all cylinders should risk forming bad habits moving forward by changing their tactics/effort level at the end of a blowout to appease the team that didn't show up.

Fair enough, but I think there are some cases where you've got to show some sportsmanship - I could see running up the score if this wasn't a one-game-knockout semi-final but it was and I feel it was a bit classless (mind you, the Germans have certainly put the World on notice with that trouncing)

Twitter is full of people saying that if Brazil was Vancouver the streets would be torched by now. Got to love the Canuck obsession out there.

We have a hashtag and slogan for this:#embracethehate or Embrace the Hate

You know your international reputation has suffered when you're being used as a negative comparison to a country rampant with crime and poverty

Horvat is definitely the choir boy out of all of them. Cassels said that he sees himself as a bit of an agitator as well.

There were pictures on Twitter of Brazilian streets on fire before the games was over.

Needless to say, the Brazilians got waxed

Nicely played

Incidentally, it's just fairly early evening in Brasil, so don't be surprised if there are more torchings as the night goes on. I don't think you can find a healthy liver anywhere near Rio or Sau Paulo

As a competitor I've always defined sportsmanship as performing at 100% no matter the circumstances (and my stance on that doesn't change based on which side of the ass-whooping I'm on). I'll offer to shake your hand whether I whooped you OR got whooped BY you as long as the scoreline was representative of our two sides giving it their all. Sometimes you get bested & have to tip your cap - but if you prepare mentally, physically & tactically, and carry that prep onto the battlefield, you should never be in a position to hang your head. Brazil deserved every bit of that beatdown/embarrassment IMO. Germany was smart to keep the momentum intact heading into what will be a difficult final.

I'm here right now too, never seen so many cowboy boots and hats in all my life

Didn't go to the Stampede though...too busy.

- LeftCoaster

I'm from BC but currently reside in Calgary because of work... Sigh.
Every Stampede this place turns into the franking twilight zone.

I'm going to make absolutely sure I pick you first if we ever have a Hockey Buzz hockey tournament

I understand your points. In particular, I agree with your comments about Germany having to be prepared for a difficult final and hence perhaps it was more just optics rather than a strategy of rubbing in the score.

I guess I go with the hockey comparison, in that I can barely recall any play-off games (series winning games, that is) where the team didn't take their foot off the pedal (namely, by playing 3 and 4th liners most of the rest of the game, or on the powerplay) when one team significantly outscored the opposition

Of course football is a different game with a different code, ethical, sportsmanship conduct and its own official and unofficial rules (my favourite being - having a brain tumour and falling down in agony for 20 minutes when an opposing player touches them with his pinky)

I am sure Kaptaan is going to be quick to remind you that Vancouver is not BC , rather that it is just one part of BC.

Also that it is shortsighted to judge Alberta because of one's experiences in Calgary. Calgary is just one part of Alberta
Edit: Because obviously you didn't already know that

Not from van actually. Visit about 4 times a year though. I'm from the Kootenay's. This time we thought wed head out to alberia ( not a typo) and visit my wife's sister in Calgary for stampede. Big mistake Vancouver is better in every way possible lol and yes the beer is more expensive in van but you can enjoy it staring at the ocean instead of some fake cowboy
