2 games away from the cup in 2010
pretty decent for cheese cloth - Marc D
The cheese cloth with that team was the third pairing and in goal.
Holmgren rides 2010 to a "promotion" meanwhile Laviolette was fired. Doesn't compute. |

Holmer did some good things (trades/drafting) and some not so good things (contracts/other trades). By promoting him, we keep his expertise while allowing Hexy to do a better job with the things he did not excel on. |

Lavy was fired because this team got off to a terrible start and it looked like the players weren't responding to him. Since the ownership would hardly stand by for another tank season, they shook it up, swapped Lavy with Berube, and the Flyers got in the playoffs with the 5th seed. Seeing as how this is a perennial playoff team and Homer kept things at the status quo (including a 2010 SC run), it's pretty clear to me why Lavy got the boot and Homer got the promotion. |

I'm a big Laviolette fan. I understand based on the way the team was performing, he had to be let go, but no one is going to convince me Berube is a better coach than PL. I don't think many people do. |

could be, wonder why they are waiting if it is Hall? - Marc D
Hall might be exploring other options. Or he might not be talking about Hall. |

Meh, I guess it wasn't 5th seed, but if the Flyers had more points than Rangers, they'd had had home ice advantage over them. This new format still throws me off... |

I was all for firing Laviolette, but I agree he's likely a better coach than Berube. Despite the rebound and making the playoffs, I'm not a huge fan of Berube. Perhaps with a year's experience and a full camp he'll be better and the one thing I did like about him is, he seemed to at least be trying to learn from mistakes. |

I like Lavy too and think he is a great coach, but Berube brings some different elements. His focus on conditioning and accountability was a big help to the team last year. |

Laviolette handled some things poorly. Mainly Bobrovsky. I still believe he's a very good coach. I would much rather have him coaching my team than Berube.
I think Berube is a good motivator, and I think the players respect him. X's and O's wise, jury is still out. |

Berube wouldn't have been my choice, and I would have made the change soon after the shortened season. I didn't like the handling of Bobrovsky or Couturier & Schenn. Although he was better with others, like Gustafsson. |

The jury was still out after Laviolette's first year as an NHL coach. And I like Berube's X's and O's better. |

I don't know how you can say Berube won't be a good coach and Laviolette was great. Berube hasn't even had a training camp yet. Both have different systems and different ideas. Laviolette was good while here but he also had is own problems with the way he handled some things. Lets give Berube a chance before we say he is a failure or one is better then the other. |

He doesn't get credit for taking a team with some glaring weaknesses to the SCF? |

Agreed. He turned the season around nicely. Have to be willing to give him a chance. He did some good things last year. |

didnt the hockey news peg them that summer to go to the finals? That was a good team who went to the eastern conference finals twice without pronger. That year was his best year after that it was all down hill. |

He gets credit but they didn't win it. I can give him credit for doing well but I can't say he is better then Berube without giving Berube a fair shot.

You want Mason for 4.1 per or Bob at 5.65 on this team? Bob's good but at that salary on this team glad to have Mason. - flyerfan28
mason's bigger, younger, plays bigger, and handles the puck better. i'm good with mason. not to mention the right hand catch is a little advantage i think. |

They had a minor league goalie, and two dmen on the third pairing that had no business being in the NHL. |
