So without drafted, we cannot have a core? - SuperSchennBros
No, because we spend all of our money on high-priced UFAs. Try reading Bill's blog, it may explain some things to you. |

Solid choice.
Constipates the best of us in high doses, but I'd be down for a rectal probe if I could down 2 jars without worry. |

Oh, my bad. I totally forgot that Giroux, Shea Weber, Henrik Lundqvist, Martin St. Louis, PK Subban, Ryan Getzlaf, Jamie Benn, Erik Karlsson, Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Quick, Pekka Rinne, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Brent Seabrook, Zach Parise, Corey Perry, Patric Bergeron, Pavel Datsyuk, Henrike Zetterberg, and the great Shayne Gostisbehere were all drafted outside of the top-10 - jmatchett383
All you're doing is twisting what I'm saying.
I've simply said we need another player of impact, which is separate from Hextall's approach to drafted. If you've been watching my posts nearly as closely as you've claimed, I've said numerous times that I'm happy with the draft but unhappy with Hartnell/Umburger trade and no moves have made since.
So it's really not my problem if you're taking my words, twisting them and making things up. |

What do you mean? Ray Emery faced pretty tough competition in his own right. In fact Emery faced the defending champions at the time both times we faced them and beat them once. - SuperSchennBros
Come on now, man...
Emery held his own, sure, and even did so on some nights against tough teams. He did seem to get some bad draws, didn't he?
But he also was exposed; particularly his lateral movement.
But I dunno what you're getting at. If you're playing Devil's Advocate, you're doing a very poor job, because anyone that watched this team even a little bit saw that Mason was a rock back there, making huge save after huge save. We haven't had a goalie play like he did last year that I remember in my lifetime, albeit relatively short. |

Please. For (frank)s sake. Its Umberger.
Unless you are spelling it that way on purpose. In which case I will take my truculence elsewhere. It's almost as bad as "Colburn". |

The last one was probably Checmanek (spelling???) back in the early 00's. Extremely underrated goalie. |

So without drafted, we cannot have a core? - SuperSchennBros
Hopefully in a couple years we will have a core group of Giroux/Couts leading our forwards and hopefully 2 of Ghost/Morin/Hagg/Sanheim/Alt will be impact defensemen. There is a reason we are trying to change the direction of our team right now. The way we have been doing business is really not working.
I think if the Flyers do pretty bad next year you might see a trade to move up to the #1 or 2 pick in the draft and a rebuild start to happen. |

We have a core. I don't need Bill to do my thinking for more, thanks.
Take example the rumours of Simmonds plus for the first pick overall. The First pick probably could have been ours. We could have DRAFTED Aaron Ekblad but we refused to give up Simmonds which we did not draft....who is apart of our core.

Step 1: Toast 2 pieces of bread
Step 2: Slap some nutella on one of those mother(frank)ers
Step 3: Slap some peanut butter on the other one of those mother(frank)ers
Step 4: Place bread together, taking care that the peanut butter and nutella are on the inside of the sammich; that is, be sure the sammich looks like a traditional sammich
Step 5: Consume the food of the gods

Not bad on the Gibson mask. Much better than Mason's Zombie theme. Not a fan of that one.
If he struggles next season, first step is to get a new one. |

emery was great at times last year. in a road game against the devils in january, i saw live, they blew a 1 goal lead in the final minute with marty pulled (even though the flyers were on a (frank)ing pp), but they won in ot. they don't win that game without emery that night. he was fantastic. in general, he got almost zero goal support. tough to win that way.
mason was great, overall, last season. i think he can be even better. i'd love to see his numbers be more like 2.25 and .925...not that numbers mean everything because they don't. |

Yeah, as I was writing out the post I thought of him. His numbers were nasty in the regular season, but I was like 11 at that time and wasn't exactly watching the game as....intensely.... like I do now. |

Was Steve Mason a top 10 goaltender in the league last year? He's young, it's not out of the question that he could get better but this doesn't erase his time with Columbus. He now has to reprove himself, where as Giroux doesn't. |

Sooo...if we have a player who we know is good for 20+ goals, but we can give him away (plus another asset) to get a young player who has no record whatsoever at the pro level, we should act on that without hesitation?
Dude, Aaron Ekblad, in any other draft year, is probably in the 6 spot, MAYBE. Now, if it's a guy like DOughty or McDavid, then yeah. But no way would I trade Simmonds plus for Ekblad just because it saves money. That is HORRIBLE asset management. |
