If all that matters is the flyers' opinion then why are we here? - Just5

Anyone interested in Burmistrov? I feel like he would be a solid young forward for the Courturier line. He has the skills and one of the Russians who actually plays d. |

We'll see. I think it's more like berube as the coach wants all options available to him. While management is taking a long term view and will send him down if there's no spot available in the top 9. Which I don't expect there to be one.
Their making it sound like a 4th line 8-10 minute role is unacceptable. So he would have to head and shoulders beat out guys like raffl and b schenn in camp, which isn't going to be easy - Just5
Some will disagree, but I just don't think it's a crime or a bad thing for Scott Laughton to get plenty of time in the AHL. A stretch of games down there just isn't going to kill him. It just won't.
Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson were both solid contributors as young players to the Kings' Stanley Cup run this year. Toffoli played almost 60 games with Manchester, and Pearson more than 100, before they got sniffs with the Kings, last year and this year.
It won't bother me one bit if Laughton doesn't make the team and spends time down there. It isn't a silver bullet, but giving players development time is the best way to go about this, I feel.

I agree, I prefer him there honestly.
I'm just curious who will be centering the 3rd and 4th lines right now. |

This is what you wrote:
You were pretty heavy handed with the broad brush there and I was just pointing it out.
I was glad to see you backpeddle a bit in this post when you said "some of the STHs", which I can't argue with.
Not every fan that goes to a game or every STH dives into the nooks and crannies of the game and wants to talk corsi and fenwick. Some want a night out to blow off steam and NHL hockey provides that outlet. - johndewar
Not backpeddling. But someone stated they hoped to hear better questions. I understand STHs might just like to enjoy the game or blow off steam. So I was stating that is a reason why you might not get the questions you might want the answers too.

Opens up a nice spot on the 4th line for VL |

Personally, I'm hopeful that the Flyers attempt to avoid other franchise's problems. It's not an "always" thing, but sometimes, some guys are more trouble than they are worth |

So that means you wouldn't want Evander Kane then too? I just think he would be worth the risk. Both guys would be. They provide things we don't have. And maybe moving from the peg to a city like Philly might get more out of them. |

2 summers ago, we were also banking on either locking up Shea Weber for 800 years and hoping to grab Ryan Suter for 8. There were a few "elite" guys out there. If they still had Carle on the roster now, the only people crying about 6 years would be the Carle haters. Just a different landscape this offseason. - jmatchett383
Banking on and succeeding at doing so, are vastly different birds.
Let's look back at that summer, shall we? Suter was widely expected to end up with Minnesota. It wasn't like "Suter's ex-girlfriend lives in Minneosta and she's been calling him lately" but a pretty well known situation where Suter and Parise both wanted to play in Minnesota.
As for Weber, he was a RFA. For all the wonderful aspects of that, only TWO RFA hit with an offer sheet have left their original teams. One was Chris Gratton, the other was Dustin Penner. Both were disappointments and neither was a franchise type player.
Just because the Flyers were pursuing those guys, the reality is, they were not very likely to land either.
I mean, I'm pursuing financial independence and being able to spend my days fishing and drinking beer....but it's not likely to happen. |

I used to always be about signing players purely based on talent and hoping the other stuff worked out. I've changed my tune quite a bit though. Having disrupting players is just bad for the team. I'm not referring to burmistrov. I'm just making a general statement |

I like that Hextall said that they'd have to kick the doors down to make the team. If Laughton is one of the team's best 9 forwards, keep him up.

Lies! Communist lies!
*goes and shots gun in backyard
But really, yes, BUT I think we need someone that might actually be able to play LW with G not more third liners, unless read is being moved up.
Edit: the attitude issue is overblown IMHO. It might just be the Peg, we hear Buff, Kane and Burmi have issues there? I see a pattern and it's pointing towards a restless city. |

I say it a lot, and Bill just said it today: The grass is always greener on the other side.
Evander Kane's a talented player. I don't dispute that. But if the guy's that big of a pain in the ass in Winnipeg, how do you know that he won't be just as much of a pain in the ass in Philadelphia?
The Flyers aren't the best team in the league right now, but they're not the worst. There will come a time when they should take a risk. But do you really want to burn the assets for a guy who you have a pretty good idea will be a pain in the ass if he doesn't like whatever it is he decides he doesn't like? |

I have worries on character, too. However, when I look at Winnipeg and see how many guys that they have who are acting out and being villified as bad guys, I have to start wondering if the organization is bigger issue. |

Right now. Yes. I don't see us making a run at a cup next year and possible the following year. So I would take the risk now before we are team on the cusp of a cup when i want the chemsitry perfect. Also the contracts are resonable so when the cap goes up you can make moves to fill in the missing pieces. Those are just my ideas. I know others feel differently.

I have to admit that I have not followed the Kane drama as well as I could but I am having a hard time seeing what everyone is so worked up about. He didn't openly say he wants to play in the Peg so it is gasoline on the fire? Really? This same thing happened with Bobby Ryan saying he was sick of all the rumours and no one (other then Brian Burke) held him over a fire. Maybe I'm missing some crucial points. I checked his twitter and didn't see anything terrible. What was the deal there? |

Hey, no worries -- we can always debate/disagree. I'm not risk-averse, but right now, if the Flyers do burn assets, I'd rather it be for a player whose character and maturity were a little less in question.
But I'm more hoping they stand pat, for now.

It is odd. I don't want to play this card, but it does seem that the Don Cherry thing is going on. Andrew Ladd is the captain, good Canadian boy. Never hear his leadership questioned. But the Black dudes and the Russian guy...according to the Winnipeg MSM, they are they troublemakers. |
