So they need to suck consistently, get high draft picks, develop, and succeed!!
Stanley cup 2025 here we come!
edit: just poking fun - Streit2ThePoint
The 2012 and 2014 Cup teams were flukes. If they Kings didn't 3-peat, they're not real championship teams.
Doughty, Brown, Quick, Kopitar, Voynov, Martinez...all players they had to give up assets to acquire. |

Might be easier to not ask him to change and just put him in a better position to succeed... keep him on the 4th-line, but flank him with some skill, then deploy that line as an offensive-zone specialty unit. It would require abandoning the old tried and true energy line idea, but when life gives you lemons... - Tomahawk
If that's the only option, the Flyers should work real hard at moving him. If he's healthy, he's a better player then that. And playing him on the 4th line, regardless of who he plys with is waste in my view. |

Ever lived in Canada? First hand knowledge would help back a statement like this up. - Rocktane
haven't lived in Canada but have spent quite a bit of time there. I don't see how not living in a place would confirm or refute my statement. |

If they move B Schenn to the 1LW spot, Vinny should be the 2C. |

The catch is that the most famous examples (Yzerman, Modano and Primeau) could still skate really well into their 30's. - Tomahawk
Different positions, but I was thinking more Brett Hull in Dallas and especially Detroit. His legs were really starting to go, toward the end, and he wasn't winning any Selkes, but he did turn himself into a player who could go out and play a defensive system responsibly, be trusted.
I don't want or expect Vinny to be Sean Couturier, you know? Just be responsible, back check, bear down defensively, compete more in his own zone. That alone will help. |

he got a boost when he went to the 4th line. i don't think it's a terrible place for him to be, other than not wanting to spend that kind of cap space on a guy who's getting 8 minutes a night. it then leaves b schenn at 2c.
i think they'll experiement. either way, he could stand to become tougher to play against, more commitment to defense, etc regardless of his position. |

I think Laughton has a 50/50 shot at the 4C spot. I think Ghost will have to have a massive, overpowering preseason and camp to start the season up. Without it, I'd be shocked if he got more than 5 games with the big club (barring multiple long-term injuries). As much as I want them to win now, I'm fine with all of the young D in the AHL/juniors for the bulk of the season, if not all season. - jmatchett383
Sorry, I meant next season, as in 2015. We're already into the new league year, as far as my thinking goes. |

If you look at the Kings roster my friend, they were most defintiely built on drafting. The Kings and Hawks are pretty much a mirror image in how they were built. Built through the draft, and suplemented by trades and free agency. - MJL
one difference being goaltending. quick is superior to niemi and crawford by a significant margin in my opinion. at the end of the day, it doesn't matter though, because it was good enough to win. |

Thanks Bill for the insight. It's important to have players in development, as well as those that we think need to be traded, as part of the discussion.
I found an interesting article on a Flyer first:

It's important, and kind of neat to remember these milestones.
Just sayin'. |

Again, for the record: I'm totally fine with the kids being in the AHL all season, I absolutely see no need for Ghost to be on the NHL roster -- could he make it? Maybe. But why even force it?
All those guys can stay down for more seasoning. I'd like to see Alt at some point because he does have a full season in the AHL, but it doesn't have to be now -- with the Flyers already having seven defensemen under contract, he will likely have to wait. |

Agreed. But, again, that being said, if they come into camp/preseason and make it impossible for the GM to send them down...well, they'll deal with that as needed. I really do hope that a lot of the younger guys get a lot of playing time in preseason, though. For a guy like Morin, a 9-game tryout would probably be nice, even if he only plays in 2-3 games, just for him to be around the pro team. |

Try finding some right handed shots. It's tough enough to develop as a Dman at the NHL level, doing it on the off-D is ridiculous. |

because hextall sucks and is incompetent. why he can't turn this team into the late 90s red wings in 10 minutes is beyond me, and frankly, it's unacceptable. - hammarby31
Team Negative approved.
Hextall GM for a few weeks, get him out and eliminate the Flyers from the playoffs because they aren't significantly better already . |

I keep seeing this Kane thing on all hockey sites it seems. So what is the best offer we make to get him? I know my opinion might be different then the restI thinhe is the legit 1st line player to play with giroux and snipe 40 goals on the wing.
2015 1st rounder
B. Schenn
Grossmann or L.Schenn
For
E. Kane
2015 4th rounder |

I think they are better by not having done anything.
I don't know what bSchenn and Couturier will wind up being. And maybe if Schenn doesn't find another level of consistency, then he does get moved.
But I have beat this horse and will continue on, no matter how this season turns out: They sure as hell didn't need to move him now, and I am glad they didn't. |

This is the fast food generation. Many need instant gratification, and expect it. You can't undo in one week, what has taken many years to create. If you can give Hexy a chance, he may actually start to make a difference. He did work on our farm team, but how do you expect him to remove the long term deals, trade the older or broken players, or go to free agency, and create more holes to fill than we currently have? But, I guess we need our Wiki-GM's to create our team.
