That's a whole lot of money to give a goalie who's played a career high of 46 games in a season. Those pretty numbers could easily take a nosedive with a heavier workload. |

Agree, but it does make for some great drama. Why didn't the Dutch save a sub to switch goalies again? Their starter is brutal in those, apparently even in league play. |

The Dutch were negative enough in their tactics today. To keep a specialist SO goalie on standby for the 2nd game in a row would have been one too far. |

NJD had to lock him up though. They traded for him and had to do something to try and lock him up. They were up against the wall on this deal. Either sign him to a longterm deal or let him walk. If Schneiders numbers stay around the same then its a great deal for NJD. If he regresses under an increased workload then its a bad deal for them.
I think it'll end up being a good deal but giving that kind of term with a somewhat proven goalie is a bit of a gamble. He didn't even play 60 games last year.... |

Bezz, you need to follow a better diet as well as a strict regime as follows:
1) Beer filled donuts (good start, there, as you suggested)
2) Beer filled schnitzel with side of donuts
3) Donuts with a side of donuts
4) Absolutely no boinking 8 months before taking the challenge
5) 22 cups of espresso (with dipping bearclaws - no, not the David Booth kind)
6) Try hitching a ride on a conducive beaver for some of the way up
7) Focus on the tree bark, if it's on the south side of the tree, it means you're going down, feck face
8) Get AlexF, Lefty, Vintage, Petro, Nucker, Bieksa and of course Kaaptan to take turns piggy backing you up the steep parts (make sure you have Herr Doctor with you in case you need more ecstasy).
Hope these tips help!
P.S. all my teachers are in convalescent homes
Edit: also bring Vantel's balut snacks to mark your territory barfing - Zogg
I think the piggy backing is probably the most vital of those |

If anyone could do it, it would be him - amazing the guy hasn't really lost that much of a step - Zogg
I don't think he will. From what he has said he already thought it was one year too many
EDIT:
Last three years:
82GP - 66P
46GP - 24P
64GP - 27P
Not really ideal production after that 66 point season for a career PPG player |

I know they had to do something, but I think it's a huge gamble. He's played 60 games exactly once in his career, with the Moose. |

Didn't he have some problems with dehydration and cramping too? I thought it was in the AHL and that one playoff game where he had issues. |

True dat. In fact it's probably for the best that he's not pulling a 'Brodeur'
P.S. good luck in your pool - just make sure to wear your striped blue and white thong and channel your inner Che Guevara
PPS - all ye fellow posters, huge-ass open bar at Bezz' place if he wins the WC pool! ALL the liquor you can ingest before your liver decides to enter the witness protection program (be prepared to sign comprehensive disclaimer form and/or provide urine sample) |

Shhhh... I'm looking to win my WC pool (I took Argentina) without watching any of the matches completely. Please don't take that from me

At least he still has that whole red light district thing and massive amounts of quality cheese (not to mention smoking cigar sized fatties in public) |

I'm not sure about the AHL, but the playoff game for sure. Regardless, it's a huge step up to go from 40 starts to 65-70. It becomes mentally as well as physically draining.

I agree, but that tryout shouldn't be at 6mil/7years in a perfect world. Like I said, it's a huge gamble. |

That's pretty much Rask territory (and he's proven he can win the big games) and, as you noted, a big gamble. I'm rooting for him, though |

My post from earlier:
Since 2010 Schneider has the same sv% (.928) as Tukka Rask (.927) in roughly the same amount of games (133 to Rask's 146).
In fact Schneider has the highest sv% of anyone in the league since 2010, albeit with obviously less games than the Lundquists, Prices, etc.
And Corey Crawford is on the same cap hit. I'd say Schneids is worth that contract. |

True, but the odds are on NJ's side. With all of the treatment, sleep doctors, diets, etc these guys get on a daily basis these days I have fewer concerns about a 15-20 game increase. |

And New Jersey has barely any travel. 40 games in Vancouver is like 60 in NJ. Or something like that. |

I was floored when the B's gave Rask that contract and didn't feel he deserved it, but it looks like it worked out well. I hope the same goes for Schneider. The main concern is, how will he take the extra workload. And how he handles himself under the pressures of extended play-off hockey (thus far the sample size is nominal, but I'm inclined to say he'll have success) |

As a GM i'd certainly look more at the last 2 years where he's been pencilled in as more of a starter. That would bring his sv% closer to .923. Different expectations and pressures as a starter. I still think it's a gamble. |

It's a gamble but not a huge one and they had little choice. He would have easily gotten that as a UFA next summer. |

With that term I disagree.
Anyways, agreed to disagree. |
