I think he's saying that Armia is used his wrist injury as a crutch. I don't think I buy that, although the "having to get used to the North American game" part alarms me. I hadn't really heard that one before until Armia's case, at least not from any European that really became an effective player. - buffalofan19
I have heard the Euro thing before . It was not made up for Armia . Part of Detroit's success with European players has been letting them develop in the farm system before subjecting them to the NHL.

First, I'm not sure it's ever been quoted from the team that this is true, just us hockeybuzz experts.
Second, the kid was 20, coming over to what IS a "different game" and played in the minors. He showed improvement as the season went on and as many say, was big in the playoffs on a team that got eliminated.
That shows me a lot of development, exactly what I'm interested in seeing. |

I happen to be a govt. worker and I take great offense to your asinine comment.... - rapperray
Well, I think intelligent people have learned that making general, broad-based statements about a group of people is about as dumb as it gets. We have seen it through out history...used to ethnic based, then it targeted those with a different sexual orientation. We have heard it before about Union people.
What I will say is that the protection a Union gives to INDIVIDUAL workers makes it more difficult to Get rid of poor performers, or those who abuse the system. In non-union Employers, the management can more easily get rid of those they want. So, after some time, it may be that a group of Union workers are less productive than a group of non union workers. HOWEVER, individuals within the Union may be the most productive as well.
In summary...it is all an individual thing...not group based.
The squirrel has succeeded in stirring the pot.

HOT - SABRES 89
Sorry...... A word to those who are worried about the Sabres being too good this season...... Relax..... They were soooo bad last season that they will only be moderately better..... I still see them as the cellar dweller only a tad more competitive... |

I agree. I don't see this team making a big leap, but will be improved and more entertaining. Lookout on this board when they start putting together some wining streaks...the alarm bells will be ringing loudly. |

Like my parents taught me .. Ignore them, they eventually go away.
Such negativism, what a waste of life always finding what is wrong. Rather that complaining about it, go fix it...but it better be damn well perfect. |

If he didn't steadily improve at the end of the year I'd maybe agree, but he said it was the schedule of the North American game, not the game itself |

I think the biggest difference is the size of the ice surface.

I don't know what I'm talking about. Soooooo high end talent with effort doesn't win? We need guys like Myers, Stafford and Grigerenko who are low energy guys to win. All I said was facts, buffalo has zero scoring forwards for the amerks who are prospects, Luke Adam isn't a prospect anymore, guys like Armia, girgensons and Catenncai can't even score at AHL level. Facts, another fact, girgensons was 41% on faceoffs. |

This. Basing a young kid's future on a half season of minor league hockey is foolish. I can't imagine how much different the game is going to a smaller ice surface. He started to put it together towards the end of the year and was excellent in the playoffs. |

I do wish the NHL would move to the larger ice surface we see in Euro and the Olympics as it does open the game up more and gives the skill players more room to use their skills on...even going halfway would be an improvement in my mind. |

I'm pretty sure Armia said that the toughest part was the schedule of NA hockey, and not the actual game.
Either way, he said he knows how hard he needs to work and next year he will be prepared |

If Olympic Hockey is any indicator, you may get one more goal per game. |

Definitely, which causes changes to the overall game (timing, angles, etc), so it's understandable. |
