there are degrees sir - Crimsoninja
The homerish the better IMO. This is why I love watching other games on the package or on line. I love hearing the home guys. Well, except Edwards, he is just a giant douchecanoe.

The situation that Holmgren has the team in, is a star player signed to great contract compared to what Toews and Kane just signed. Quality young players such as Simmonds and Voracek, signed to quality deals. Good young developing players such as B Scehnn, Couturier, Raffl, and possibly Laughton. And an experienced defense. Where the team is lacking is in a #1 defenseman. And the reason for that is the injury to Pronger, and the natural progression of age with Timonen. Really the biggest area of concern is young defenseman. And Holmgren's failure to draft and develop defenseman well. But let's not pretend that Holmgren left this team in the dumpster. - MJL
By "the situation" what I was referring to was that the defense, while being experienced, is largely over payed due to FA signings instead of development. None of them are bad defensemen, but as a collective whole are a little mismatched. Paying as much as they are have put them up against the cap. Whether you want to call it cap problems or not, they are uncomfortably against the cap. I expect next season's cap will bring some relief, but this exponential cap increases every year will slow down (and hopefully curb some of the FA outrageousness).
I liked Homer, but IMO worked from the "Get in the dance and anything can happen" playbook, whereas Hexy really seems to have a longterm vision that won't change from year to year.
I like the forwards the Flyers have a lot. I'm not a big fan of the defense. I tend to think that Homer left the team where the core forwards' prime years will be used waiting for the defensive prospects to mature. |

JJ gets a lot of crap for is "and they say it's onside" line, but he says that for both teams. - Feanor
Hate to say it, but as time goes on, JJ's sayings arrive more and more in ill humor. |

Staggy/Errey < Edwards/Brickley - Tomahawk
This, without a doubt... x100000000
My family takes bets on how long it will take to piss me off after we turn on Root. Turn it on and either:
1. They don't know what the heck they're talking about in relation to rules or just the way the game is played
2. They're bragging up Sid... Sidny this.. Sidney that... best player in the universe.
3. They're complaining a penalty wasn't a penalty on the Pens.
4. They're complaining there wasn't a penalty when they feel there should have been... against the Pens.
...and basically just being massive.. massive homers. along with their annoying voices, it just doesn't bode well for me.
EDIT: btw, it usually takes me <20seconds to get pissed and either mute them or change the channel... |

Yup. Which is why I cant help but laugh at people who complain about him.
Seriously people. Watch a Pens game on root sports and come back and tell me JJ is a Homer. |

I'm ok with JJ for the most part. I hate when he says "rock 'em sock 'em robots" and "down goes ..."
Other than that, nothing really bothers me about him |

It always cracks me up when people complain about the local home broadcast being homerish. - MBFlyerfan
When Jackson says "Rock em sock em robots" it's like totally awesome. He's the bestest. |

Yeah, I dunno...he's definitely better than the others, but he has become very predictable. |

Edwards, for his bombastic delivery and all the constant hyperbole, can still really turn a phrase; and he's got some actual knowledge about the sport to share. I can at least derive some amusement from listening to him. Brickley actually bothers me more.
Staggy and Errey basically spend 2.5 hours tripping over each other to prove who loves Sid and the Pens more. |

Didn't the panthers have a broadcaster who would say random phrases that fans sent in when goals were scored? |

Think Jack honed that trying to keep camera time while he was at ESPN.
It can get old when he calls a Lucic or McQuaid dust up....you would think it was like Mike Tyson pounding on a 4th grader the way the hype it. |

My least favorite announcer, slightly worse than Edwards. I respect the guy for all that he's done, but his voice resembles that of a man pleasuring himself with a mouth full of marbles, and when he gets excited, it becomes a dying turkey pleasuring itself with a mouth full of marbles. He's also (somehow) more of a homer than JJ, and it's not even close. |
