A) Under no circumstances do I want to trade this year's 1st round pick
B) When's the last time anyone ever said the food at Rogers arena was must have or inexpensive? |

Winnipeg is a great place. it gets a bad rap from all the loser media in Toronto who like to point out places they think are worse than their metro... to make themselves feel better.
which explains why they hate on BC and metro vancouver and its teams all the time, since independent observers believe B.C. with metro Vancouver, the rockies, pristing lakes/ rivers, etc.. is the best place to live in this country... - kaptaan
I must have visited a different Winnipeg than you. |

I think the real #1 issue going forward for the Canucks is having a young future #1 center. Drafting for that player is pretty difficult.... trading for one is costly. IMO, I'm watching how Benning addresses this situation to decide if he's really the GM we need. If they dont get one in the pipeline by end of next season.... this team wont be challenging for the cup with the next generation of players. I wouldnt give up assets that could be used for a high pick or a future #1 C for Kane if it put Benning out of the market.
I definitely think the deal is not too much for Kane at all. To me I think the team would only miss Jensen and the 1st. Higgins is expendable and Markstrom is being wasted here... but another winger isnt what I'd be throwing assets at from here on in... - boonerbuck
There is really only one way to get that number one center, and that is the draft. We either need to be really bad for a year or make one whopper of a trade.
We also have about two years before our D gets old.
There were a number of holes in the dam and Benning fixed some of them, but I think we are two years away from competing.
For those of you suggesting trade Kassian, |

Also, trading all that away for Kane does nothing to address the lack of a #1C, in fact it certainly hurts the odds especially with next year's uber deep draft. |

I would love Kane , but I think Virtanen will be ready in two years. We are not competing for,the cup this year so keep the course.
It is tempting but we need to be patient. |

Ribby! Long time bro. Things are good. Just pop in to heckle ek and check out the Nucks talk from time to time. The insanity draws me back. Just when I think I'm out....
I see whips around from time to time. I saw bonzo once during the rangers run but he was long gone when I got there. How's life? |

I think it's great. those people who worked for Aramark or whoever, had every opportunity from my understanding of working for the new in-house company or to find new employment.
its the nature of the somewhat free market in socialist Canada/ British Columbia to allow companies the ability to do this.
what would you rather have? 5 year central plans coming from the communist politburo every year? if so then maybe you should move to a country with central planning... - kaptaan
By central planning, do you mean Ottawa deciding on a pipeline going through BC.
Name a country with central planning?
Oh, and some people are socialists and communists, stop hating on people. |

Life's great man! Got all that crazy poop sorted out, have a 2nd child. But I moved east awhile back.
I see Whip now and again, actually we thought maybe you had an alt about a week back. I haven't seen Bonzo in several months. I get a message from the Newf now and then but for the most part he's just partying really hard and not spending any time here.
On the other hand, having a newborn means I'm at home most of the time. |

Stolen from HFBoards:
Ron Francis was drafted at 6'1" and played most of his career at 6'3".
Nick Bjugstad was drafted at 6'4", they now have him at 6'6".
Travis Hamonic was 5'11" in his draft year and is now 6'2".
Brendan Dillon went undrafted for being 5'9? He's now a 6'3 beast. Same with Danny DeKeyser
Wiercioch was drafted as 6'2 grew to 6'5.
Erik Gudbranson, drafted at 6'3" 195lbs. Now, 6'5" 210lbs
Eller was drafted at something like 5'10. Now he is 6'1
Mats Sundin was drafted at 6'3 1/2 and played his career at 6'5".
Just to name a few, so it does happen. - PetrolSexual
I don't disagree that it happens, but it is a bit of a stretch to count on it |

Virtanene basically will be Kane no need to trade assets for that. We need to either got back to domination which I honestly think we can do or tank for eichel or mcdavud |

That is by no means guaranteed. I do agree though I would rather not spend young assets chasing after him |

So what do you think of the new regime ? - golfingsince
To be honest, I'm of mixed emotions about the new regime and it is trending downward.
I'll preface my opinion by saying that the team's new direction seems to be a joint decision of Benning, Linden and Aquillini. This decision of trying to compete now and transition towards youth is a mistake in my opinion. The time for competing for a playoff spot has passed. At this team's absolute best, it is a 6th to 8th seed. Even at it's best, it cannot compete in the playoffs past the first round. Therefore, I am of the belief that a total rebuild is necessary.
To that end, I would have put more emphasis on the 10th pick from the Ducks rather than the prospects. In fact, I would have liked the 10th and 24th pick without any warm bodies back. However, having said that, I thought the trade was adequate/serviceable. Not a great return but not a complete whiff.
I don't like the Vrbata and Miller signings. To me, all they do is make the team able to reach mediocrity. Unless, Benning is planning a huge trade deadline yard sale, I'm afraid of finishing 10th-14th. A team that is utterly unremarkable and gets draft picks that only yield 2nd line players and below.
What is patently obvious and said by others is the need for a true #1C in the pipeline. You can't trade for one. You need to draft one and the best way is to get a top 5 pick. The team is bad enough that had Benning done nothing, we could have had a top 5 pick next year.
Therein lies my biggest beef: the team was perfectly situated to tank for 1 season going into the best draft in a decade. You don't get a perfect storm like that often. Anyone who believes that this team can make the playoffs and compete with the top dogs in the conference is stupid enough to believe that the team could compete for the playoffs with rookies and youngsters. It's all how you market it. |
