Yes, and the hockey people I've talked to who think MacDonald is a solid two-way NHL defenseman include a couple pro scouts who played more than a combined 2,000 NHL games as defensemen and have roughly 25 years of combined NHL scouting experience after their playing careers. Bill Clement also feels the same (and he will give you a straight opinion if he doesn't think someone is very good). He was only a 2-time NHL All-Star as a defensive forward and has more than a quarter century of hockey broadcasting experience, including a lengthy stint on the national level.

But, hey, what would people like that know about who can and can't play in this league, especially on D? Clearly they need to start focusing exclusively on Corsi/Fenwick charts to know the real story.

The sad part is that someone with that level of incompetence can actually write a blog that will be actually read.

Since the Flyers currently lack a 2015 second-round pick, it would have to be the Flyers' 2016 second-rounder plus something such as the third-round pick in 2015 that was acquired from Columbus.

110% worth it for a 22 year old NHL-ready 1st round pick. We need to get this done, these opportunities don't come around every year.

And if he goes and signs with another team and we are down 2 picks?

This isn't like giving up 2 picks to sign the next Sidney Crosby or Shea Weber. It's a guy who MAYBE can play top-6 LW in the NHL. Giving up picks just to talk to the kid for a month is a huge gamble.

$5+ million is market value for a UFA 40-50 point 2C who also has heavy defensive responsibilities and performs them admirably.

It's a gamble I'd take. Philly is a desirable place for FAs, and we have a top 6 spot to give him, possibly even one next to a Hart candidate. On top of that, we have a whole month to talk to him. If we get him signed then we've traded a 2nd and 3rd round pick for a 1st rounder that is ready for the big league. Is it allowed to ask Chicago for permission to talk to him briefly and gauge if he's open to signing with us before trading for him?

I think I would make that part of the deal. Find out if the kid is willing to sign here before making the trade.

Dude A jumps off a cliff in chase of a rainbow.
Dude B also jumps off a cliff in chase of a rainbow.
Dude C continues the trend.

Everything tells a story whether stats or the eye test. I think Amac epitomizes the debate between them because he looks solid, but the numbers don't back him up.

Love how some people view Amac as a 3/4 defenseman and anyone who views Amac as a 4/5 defenseman is completely anti-Amac and relies completely on Corsi numbers in evaluating him.

If they trade for the hayes kids rights, would they then get the 2nd rounder in the 2015 draft? so they either get the kid or a 2nd rounder in a draft that thy don't have a second rounder and likely give up assets 2 drafts from now.
I would be OK with either outcome

One of the truths about Corsi is that sometimes good players on bad teams have bad numbers.

Nonsense man.

How dare anyone question the organization. All is well. Hell I'm sure the 'season that shall not be named' was a bright spot as well. Beat the orange meat.
