Because he is an NHL-ready winger who fits the size/skill profile the Flyers want. Hextall's philosophy is to avoid spending assets for aging vets -- not for a talented 22-year-old who would instantly become the top offensive prospect in a farm system basically devoid of projectable NHL scoring forwards, especially wingers. - bmeltzer

Why would Chicago do that? They risk losing him for nothing when they can lose him for a 2nd if they do nothing - PhillySportsGuy
Since the Flyers currently lack a 2015 second-round pick, it would have to be the Flyers' 2016 second-rounder plus something such as the third-round pick in 2015 that was acquired from Columbus.

And the Flyers don't have a 2015 2nd, right? No way I see a trade happening unless Hexy knows Hayes is going to sign here, and that seems unlikely. |

That feels like a ton just "to talk with" someone who seems eager to get to FA. I really want to believe this new administration is going to make a concerted effort not to squander draft picks like candy.
Besides, I am sure there are plenty of ways to get to him or his agent and feel the waters out without it being tampering. |

That's a lot to give up for a guy who may not even sign. If they really love the guy, they should give him the 5 star treatment when he becomes available though. |

You seem to be pretty high on Hayes. Not sure he'll find a better situation than the Flyers. An opportunity to play with G if he can show he's capable and in a major city no less. - PhillySportsGuy
I guess since they don't have a 2nd rounder in 15, they would need to offer Chicago a 4th in 15 and a 2nd in 16?. Can't Chicago taking any less since they can just do nothing and get a 2nd as is.
I'd do that deal though, it would be really nice to have at least one legit quality wing prospect in the system. |

The problem is there's no guarantee they sign him. If he doesn't sign, the Flyers just traded away two picks for nothing |

I think that the Flyers would have to insist on being allowed to speak to the player/agent prior to finalizing deal and get a verbal committment that he would sign here. |

can the Flyers offer him a one way deal or does it have to be a two way entry level deal? |

The Flyers flipped Hamhuis' rights for a 3rd round pick when they realized they couldn't sign him. |

In that case, they might as well wait until he becomes a FA. He's a FA on Tuesday. I don't believe he will choose the Flyers over a team like the Bruins because they traded for him 4 days before he becomes a FA. |

I don't think the Flyers lost any picks on Hamhuis either. They essentially converted Ryan "I'm terrible and injure goalies" Parent into a third round pick. |

Yeah, guy's $ is capped no matter where he goes, so it's purely about fit. Why would he want to sign here, and have to knock out a veteran top-9 player from the roster, when he could go to FLA to play w/ his bro, or CGY to reunite w/ his linemates (Gaudreau/Arnold)? |

Yes, I am aware of that....the point was HE NEVER wanted anything to do with Philly. That was a desperation hope.
At least with Kimmo and Scottie it was pretty clear they had interest.
I have no problem with the move if someone in the organization has INSIDE information that he is in fact interested in Philly. This whole Islanders approach of grabbing rights and convincing shouldnt happen here. |

Or just stay in the Boston area. That's not a bad team up there. |
