Awesome, thanks for the info. On paper, looks like a great prospect. Don't know why people don't talk about him more. - Johannes19
A lot of the diehard fans know of him, but he's a late riding pick playing college hockey so the hype won't get going until they see him during pre-season or playing in the AHL. Looks promising, but we'll see how his game translates into the AHL. |

Do guys feel that Vey is guaranteed a spot regardless of how he plays in camp?
I just can't see a situation that plays out where he doesn't make the team. If he is ready great but if he isn't, it could turn into a waste of a roster spot or potentially a high 2nd rounder if placed on waivers.
I am in no way saying I don't think he makes the team but I do feel like Benning has painted himself in a corner with Vey.
He has to go through waivers, so if he isn't good enough to be on the roster the only place I could see him is in the press box. Definitely not where I would like to see a young prospect. |

You have McCann ahead of Horvat? - Nucker101
Yeah I think McCann's potential/upside is massive. Horvat has 2nd line upside (likely 3rd line stud) IMO. |

The Canucks Army interview with the Soo Greyhounds GM was definitely interesting as he seemed to be suggesting that McCann has some untapped offensive upside that hasn't been realized yet because of his focus on his defensive game.
Most prospects struggle with the defensive aspects at that age and I hope McCann is defensive minded because he chooses too and not because he doesn't have the skill set. I do wonder a bit why so many teams passed on him when most pundits had him ranked 15-20. Obviously drafts are always a crap shoot and this years was especially so, but I would of wagered a supposedly safe bet like him would of been snatched up earlier. |

IMO we need to be cautious penciling McCann into the first line. He needs to take a big step fw this year. |

Vey was only traded to Van because he was waiver eligible this year. Benning has seen him play and has said he is NHL ready. I take that to mean we think he is NHL ready and he'll battle for ice and a spot at camp. We believe his is good enough to make it as a top 9 center this year.
I really hope out of this camp that we have Vey, Corrado and 1 or 2 other kids make the team. Like Horvat and Guance or Fox. I'll be accepting of just Vey & Corrado, i'll be pleased if Horvat sticks with the other two and I'll be very happy if they can get 4 young faces in the lineup. That is to say they earn their spots and push out vets. |

Word on the street is that the Vancouver have a poop-ton of centres.
A quick check of the depth chart makes it very hard to forecast this season's potential line up.
At 1st line Centre it's Hank.
After that? Well choose from the list
Bonino
Matthais
Richardson
Lain (ugh)
All have NHL experience - rookies filling the role:
Vey
Horvat
McCann
Gaunce
Cassels
Fox
There are 3 C jobs available and 10 players that have a shot. I'm not suggesting they all have an equal chance, but at training camp things can happen. strange things.
Bonino is the default 2LC, but that has potential to fail miserably - realistically he's a great #3, not a second liner.
Richardson is the 4th line Centre, and you couldn't ask for a better one. (have some hopes for that they might actually ice a legit 4th line this year!)
So who fits in at the 3rd line pivot this year? Your thoughts. |

....look him up - Nucker101
Why his name is Cedarholm. You can't say a 6'2 18 year old will fail and I can't say he will make it. See how the cards play out for this kid. He looked good in JRs |

Which vets get pushed out? Hansen? Higgens? I don't want rookies playing on the 4th line every other game. Its a waste. |

Yeah, it looks like a solid value pick. We'll see if he can produce more offense this upcoming season in junior. - Nucker101

supposedly Gaunce looked like the best prospect in their 4 on 4 scrimmage today. At least thats what Kuzma was saying on the team today.

I'm sure he will battle for ice and a spot and I'm sure Benning believes that he is ready or else he wouldn't of made the trade but at 180 lbs he will be easily the smallest guy in the lineup. Is he big enough to Center a 3rd or 4th line? I hope so but if he isn't there are not a lot of options.
I would love to see Horvat earn a spot and force Benning to move a Vet but it is very doubtful in my mind, Corrado has a chance but again think he will be a long shot to start the season but will IMO definitely be a call up at some point. |

Yes. They would not trade away a draft pick to lose him on waivers.

Ideally in my world Horvat earns a spot and Vey can play the wing in the top 9, forcing Benning to move a Vet.
Say
Sedin Sedin Kassian
Vey Bonino Vrbata
Burrows Horvat Hansen
Matthias Richardson Dorsett
But I think most likely we have one of Vey or Richardson as our 3rd line pivot. No rookies (other than Vey) make the club and no more Vets are moved.
Sedin Sedin Vbata
Burrows Bonino Kassian
Higgins Richardson Hansen
Vey Matthias Dorsett

Vey will be third line centre . He is the only RHC on the team and you need him for RH draws.

I'm really excited to see how he gels in Utica with some of the other talent on that roster. He seems to be a good complementary player and think he would look really good setting up Jenson, Fox or Shink this year. I think He will end up being a winger and would love to see a top line of Gaunce Jeffreys Jensen. |

I bet you're right.
Although I feel like Matthias is the guy that might surprise people. He's sort of the forgotten piece of the existing roster. I imagine coming to a new team and then not getting a lot of practice in (tortzzz) makes it hard to look good. |

Thats great except unless he can't win draws. Is he considered a good face off guy? Wouldn't Richardson on his off side be better than a guy who isn't good at faceoffs? That is if Vey is indeed not good at face offs. |
