I'm not a huge fan of the idea. Trading two high draft picks for a prospect will keep our prospect pool thin. Sure, we would get a better forward now, but we might have traded a Ghost and a Stolarz to do it. |

Definitely a possibility. But with the success rate of selecting a future NHL player with those picks, if they feel the player is NHL ready and can help the team now, I'd make the deal.

If you trade two high end prospects for one, that one prospect should be near NHL ready or have a few games under his belt with a high upside. I often ask myself, how likely is it that all of Sanheim, Morin, Gostisbehere and Hagg make the big club some day as long term players here. It's possible but at the same time, these players hold value.
With the drafting of Jesper Pettersson who's seen time paired with Robert Hagg, it seems to me the organization is very high on Hagg by going after this kid. |

I have to be honest, I haven't back read a thing. I would love to see the Flyers poach this kid. The more I sit and think about it, I like what hexy is doing. It's no secret that I am a huge Couturier fan. I think this kid could be very special once it all comes together. I like we are going to live and die with youth. I know he was constricted with the cap. But he made some shrewd decisions that help the club in the future. We are a playoff team now. Maybe not a deep run, but we have enough to make the playoffs. Mason controls how far we go. I am VERY high on him. I liked him in Columbus and was ecstatic to get him here. I like where we are going. We are now building our farm with defensive help where it seems we take the most injuries and need to have someone to rely on for ECL contracts. We can always draft and develop forwards with ease. I really like this team. Don't love it. But really like it. I think in 2 at worse 3 years when Claude is in his late prime we can really make a run at the cup. I am very, VERY excited about our future. |

Definitely seems like that his only knock, thus far. Unfortunately, it's one of the worst knocks to have.
Hopefully it's overblown, and if it isn't hopefully Kjell can whip him into shape |

With some smart moves, and hopefully unloading some of the dead weight, they have a promising future.
Some of the pieces required are already here.

I agree and I am ok with waiting. As long as this is done right. Homer got a team that was horrible. He had pressure to get back to prominence. We did well for a couple years, but then fell off. Right now, we are on track to how teams build for years to come not a t one shot. I really really like it. |

Merrick Madsen still to me was an interesting pick. - ob18
Absolutely. He's a year removed from being drafted and then can play four collegiate seasons while the Flyers hold his rights. Why not take a chance on a big and athletic but raw goalie in the late rounds when you get a five-year window just to decide if he's worthy of an ELC? If they do someday sign him to an ELC, add a few minor league seasons onto it and there is a long time frame to see if he puts it all together and develops. |

...or we might have traded an Andreas Nodl or Mike Ratchuk, or Kevin Marshall...
That said, I don't know how much upside this kid Hayes has, but if it's the overall consensus that he has top six talent, I'm in.

I had thought Burke who was taken right after him would have been better, but I don't mind seeing how this goes while he's in college. |

It can work both ways, but you don't deepen your prospect pool by trading away your second for the next two (one was already traded) years and a third.
If Hayes is a dynamic offensive talent guaranteed to sign with us after the trade, then I think about it. However, if there is even the smallest possibility that he hits free agency without a trade, I would rather take my chances with that. |

I'd think they have to be careful. The kid is seemingly dead set on wanting to be guaranteed a top 6 spot from an NHL team.
It pretty much goes against what Hexy has been preaching that all the prospects will have to earn their way onto the club.
Its a red flag for me. The kid apparently doesn't want to even entertain the idea of being in the bottom 6? Let alone in the AHL. No thanks |

James van Riemsdyk had the very same knock on him. I don't see so much a compete level problem in JvR as I do with him carrying the burdon of the title Power Forward. JvR does a lot of things a power forward can do but he's not the tipical power forward Wayne Simmonds and Scott Hartnell are. He might not be as mentally tough as them, he is strong but he's more skilled then the two. JvR is a top line competitive wing in my opinion. We'll see if Hagg can be a competitive defenseman in the NHL, starting with his time in the AHL this upcoming season. |

I don't know what this means but in recent years in all my years of being a Flyers fan, Nik Zherdov was easily the least most competitive player this team has had. Robert doesn't have to raise the bar very high. He was also originally projected a first round pick, which might have made him a steal.
I haven't enjoyed our offseason but having Anthony Shultz and Robery Hagg does excite me. Shyne Gostisbehere should be here too. Three players taking one more step towards the Flyers. |
