If Tampa is so terrible as a city, why do Canadians retire down here in droves? Is it just the weather? I don't see old Floridians moving in numbers to Toronto. At least Tampa's mayor is not a crackhead trainwreck.
That said, Toronto fans and Tampa fans should get along and have something in common. Both teams have been through some really rough times lately and have caught a lot of flack from fans of other teams. But both now have a promising queue of prospects that those other teams would love to have. We can argue over whose is better, but neither one is nothing to be ashamed of. The future looks bright for both teams - if Toronto can fire their coach and Shanahan can pick up pieces and put them in the correct order.
Hate on us all you want, we'll still welcome you to our beaches.
And, my two cents (actual worth may vary) :
Tampa > Toronto - look at the standings last year. That is all that matters. The team with most wins is better. Period. |

That seems like kind of a loosely used statement. I think you could pretty much say the same thing for at least 15 or 16 of the other teams in the NHL.
Regardless, It doesn't seem like UFA's are breaking down Tampa's door trying to sign there. - MnGump
Well you came out of leftfield didn't you? Are the other 2 Minnesota wild fans out together the woodshed that you had to come in here? |

Really? They got the guys they targeted this year. They got the guys they targeted last year. Both Callahan and Stralman signed for less money than they were asking for in New York. |

You'd rather got embarassed in the playoffs and have a worse pick? Not sure if thats what id want... especially if it was going to be a sweep to the habs... - orienbrady22
If big Ben was playing it would've been a different story. We are completely different team when we have a goaltender we can trust between the pipes. |

The NHL needs Stamkos in Florida to sell tickets, therefore he will remain.

Btw, sorry for all the leaf chatter lightning fans, it's a trick I use to justify telling leaf fans to get back to their own thread.

You do not know this and I highly doubt that Stralman was asking for more from NYR.

(frank) yeah I would rather make the playoffs and get swept with our backup goalie then choke like the leafs did down the stretch... you would have rather made the playoffs as well last year... everyone's fans would. |

I don't have an issue with them, it's good to talk to people even when sometimes their opinions they believe is gospel. |

I'll take your word for it. I have been on a few threads and from what I've seen it's a little nuts. |

Your talking in hindsight... I'm talking about leading up to the playoffs... without knowing the outcome everyone would want their team in the playoffs. So yes last year I wanted my team in the playoffs and what happened happened but at least my team made the playoffs. |

Stralman asked for the same but the rangers wouldn't go higher than 4M. |

My info on that one could be bad. I apologize if so.
But the Callahan one has been played out publicly. $5.8MM is less than what he was asking for at the deadline when he left New York.
Point is that free agents want to be with the Lightning. |

This chick I know partied with cally in miami 2 weekends ago and asked him about what happened. They actually agreed on all terms and the deal was for 6M a year and then sather went full snake mode and traded him half an hour after they shook hands. He's still extremely bitter about it. |

I can't debate that point because I have no way of proving it one way or the other.
My point is that we rarely get any inside info on what was actually asked for or refused or how the negotiations went.
It is possible that nobody else was going to pay Callahan that. We *think* we know he asked for more from New York, and we are probably right, but we don't know what New York was offering?
