About the time Vinik became owner. So not too long ago. Hiring Al Murray to do the scouting helped too. Before that it was a tire fire.

I can't debate that point because I have no way of proving it one way or the other.

My point is that we rarely get any inside info on what was actually asked for or refused or how the negotiations went.

It is possible that nobody else was going to pay Callahan that. We *think* we know he asked for more from New York, and we are probably right, but we don't know what New York was offering?

Define top? Do you mean best on ice product in terms of talent and success? Or first class management and front office from the owners to the gms to the coaches? I think the latter is definitely applicable and tampa could contend for the east this year.

One of the best prospect pools in the league. Widely regarded as a team that could compete in the East this coming season. Stable ownership that is willing to spend lots of money on the team and area. One of the top young stars in the game today. A Jack Adams nominated coach. Steve Yzerman as General Manager. There's a ton to like. I didn't say that this is the top NHL franchise, but it's certainly one of the better ones nowadays, if you're asking me.

Today we learned that having the ohl leading scorer is more impressive than drouin leading the qmjhl last year and finishing only 12 points behind the leader while playing 11 less games this yearAND tyler johnson leading the ahl in scoring last year.

I remember when christian thomas was touted the steal of the draft because of a 50 goal season after his draft year.
