But with St. Louis gone, its a bigger blow. They'd still be a good team, but I don't think they'd be a top tier team with him gone. - Danformo
No doubt, but TB is loaded with young talent so his supporting cast will only improve from here on out. MSL to Callahan is definitely a downgrade for sure. |

Tampa is the one Eastern Conference team that is poised to make a run at the Cup for the next 10 years with the talent they have and the talent coming from their prospect pool....... |

Stamkos will be a Leaf.
It's not a great thought for Tampa or their fans,
But they Will back up the Brinks truck to his door and he will Bolt to the Leafs.

It is an interesting thought.
Its a reach with money though. Not a single big contract will come off the books before his signing.
The team will have 19 million in cap space with Stamkos(guessing the cap goes to about 75 mil by then) minus the signings of Franson, Gardiner, Rielly, Bernier, and Holland. They will have to fill 8 forwards slots, 1 dman, and 1 back up G. So the 5 names could potentially eat all of the 19 million. The TML will have to move Bozak, Clarkson, and someone else (Phaneuf if it would ever happen) just to make it work and get a decent roster.
A lot of assumptions with signings and cap with the post. It will be a big money issue, JMO though. - gocanes0506

Apparently, it's always been his dream to play for the Leafs.

Stevie Y should just work out a trade with the Leafs to ensure Tampa gets some assets in return. It's only fair for them to get something back when it's pretty much a sure bet to happen. |

You know that's what Leweike wants to do is target Stamkos, why wouldn't you. Anything could happen. |

Nah, cuz Stevie Y will be replacing Nonis when Babcock becomes Leaf coach next year. Stevie will want to keep those Leaf prospects for himself when he gets here. |

Good thing the Bolts have his Leweike's younger brother to tell the older brother to leave Stamkos alone...
Stammergate... 1 year before the Lightning can start negotiations and two years before the Leafs can talk to him if he hasn't already signed an extension with the Bolts by then. Fun times... |

Tampa hasn't been a contender AND hasn't added much talent (even with callahan they lose pretty much the same talent. With Stammer the Leafs are just as good as tbby or better and imo added more talent in the past 3 years with less to work with |

It's something to think about. Id say it's more likely he resigns in Tampa but you ne'er know. It would be awsome if he came here. |

How many good free agents from Ontario have had the chance to sign with the Leafs over the last decade and have not?
So many media members were speculating that Perry would not sign long-term with the Ducks as he would like to be a Leaf. Same for Tavares, Staal, Nash...
Fact is: The Leafs are as dysfunctional as they come. Stamkos, like all other sane superstar, will not sign there. - TimBits
Woah, easy there speed demon.
The Leafs, like just about every other team will be interested in signing Stamkos. It's a no brainer. Stamkos will likely stay in Tampa, or sign with an American based Cup contender. That said, you're bringing up examples of media/fan driven speculation and comparing it to this instance, when it was Stamkos himself who started...or at least fueled the fire.. in this case.
Maybe he does want to live out some childhood dream of playing for his "hometown" team. Its more likely he won't, but it's not unpossible. Either way, don't get all huffy and puffy and throwing a tantrum over it.

from what I heard early on in his career stammer is a bit of a home body, maybe being in FLA doesn't matter much to him, plus he just watched what happens to tampas stars. vinny and marty were hatedon before leaving. |

I changed 3 words, it's not wrong.
St.Louis, Lecavalier, Bergeron, Stastny etc. The habs think they will get every player from quebec, or with a french name (Giroux) but rarely do. Glass houses |

last year a leaf signing was quoted saying "in my heart, Toronto is where I want to be." you can't with any certainty say none of those players were considering coming back
which in his prime Quebecer signed in mtl recently that I missed? |

TB is where it is at for him if he has aspirations of winning a cup. The Leafs organization is going sideways. No organizational depth. |

OK I'm pretty much watching this blog and enjoying it but get your facts straight. Vinny wasn't hated on don't know where you got that... no one wanted to see him go but we understood his salary cap hit had to go... he has and always will get a warm welcome in Tampa as he is beloved here.
Marty on the other hand will be hated on... Steven even understands why the fans feel the way the do. What he did to Steven and the team is worse then what he did to the fans.
