Some around here will argue that at best he's a 5-6 guy.
I think 3-4 is where he ends up, but if he develops a bit further, I dare say he could actually be as high as a 2.
On a perennial contender, 3-4 is probably right though. - HonkFortheGoose
He'll be what Hjalmarsson is to the Blackhawks IMO. |

I was thinking that myself, but didn't want to say it and end up getting lambasted for it. If that's how he turns out, I'll be ecstatic. I like Hjalmarsson. I think he may be one of the most underrated defensemen in the league. |

Turnover machine.
In 387 gp he is almost a 2:1 in that category.

I'm not sure he has that something extra to be what Hjalmarsson is to the Hawks. He's still young so it wouldn't shock me if he became that but from what i've seen so far it looks like he'd be a good #5 on a contending team. |

Yeah well people on here underestimate many of the Sabres players. Pysyk is a damn good player and he'll only improve IMO. Solid #4 guy who can play 1st PK and 2nd unit PP. |

I'd go out on a limb and say a James Patrick(older version). Calming influence, never out of position, great outlet pass, and assistant captain type guy. |

IMO he will be in that 3/4 pairing for the next decade. |

What sets Pysyk apart, IMO, is that he's not a "puck chaser." He reads the play well and knows where to be and when. That's not really something you can teach. Either a guy has it, or he doesn't. |

If he wasn't a RH shot, I'd honestly pair him with Myers. |

Pysyk is going to allow whoever his partner is to free wheel more. He makes it possible for the other guy to travel up ice with the puck without leaving the back end vulnerable.
In the end, it's going to be why he'll never put up huge numbers. |

Agreed.
Much like Patrick was the 12 yrs of his career.
Used the angles to never be out of place. |

Again if not for the RH shot he could be Myers' Kevin Lowe. |

Yep.
That's not to say they can't be paired together. Not every team has an even number of RH or LH guys. Ideally, that's how you'd like it to be though. |

Could be the thing that keeps him in the 3rd pairing or you see a trade.
Myers
Risto
Pysyk
All RH shots and those are a premium in the NHL. |

Well, with that, you have 3 solid guys on the one side. Makes it easier to distribute ice time and keeps everyone more fresh. It's a win-win IMO |

Everyone on here is guilty of overrating some guys on the Sabres while underrating others.
Plus, looking at how guys produce on another team and overrating them is normal. But, as they say, the grass isn't always greener.
