Underrated IMO when people do their lists. - dadeadhead
underrated when you look at his entire body of work
overrated when he was a sabre
if that makes any sense |

Absolutely. I appreciate any guitarist that can shred, but who needs speed when you can put so much emotion into 3 or 4 notes? He is just such an artist when he plays. Gilmour has a simpler style, but there's no beating it because of how brilliantly he plays. |

Career
Vanek has played 290 games with zero points (.4374% of the time)
Carter has played 307 games with zero points (.4827% of the time)
Vanek's 556 points have come in 373 out of his 663 gp
Carter's 460 points have come in 329 out of his 636 gp.
It's pretty close to equal as when Vanek has a point he avg's 1.491 per game compared to Carter's 1.398.
They are both paid to score goals and IMO are both equally streaky.
If one is a Star than so is the other.
Vanek is a better goal and point producer than Carter.
Carter is a better 2 way player than Vanek.
I'd want neither on the current Buffalo Sabres. - dadeadhead
I don't want either player right now.
If I had to choose one it's Jeff Carter 10 out of 10 times.

So this blog reiterates what I've been thinking for months (especially when reading soooo many people saying we should not draft defensemen)...which is: With our #3 prospect pool and all the All-Star games our D-men will have in the future, we still don't have too much in the cupboard after Pysyk, McCabe, Risto and Zads.
If we think we are going to dominate for years to come because of these guys + Myers and Weber (gag) we are sadly mistaken. Chances are one or more of these guys will have injury/concussion/discipline troubles in the future, or maybe even not pan out, that will likely mean we won't have the depth on D that Cup-winning teams have...I only mean statistically speaking of course. I really like the Georges trade but he's not signed through when we might be competing, and I think TM knows this is a false sense of security we have on D.
Hopefully my concern is wrong; Myers will be a Norris finalist for the next 10 years, Risto and Zadorov will destroy opponents stupid enough to carry the puck into our zone at 24 minutes a night each, and Pysyk will be our unsung-hero-Bill-Hajt-type player. Or we are one staff infection away from being runners-up.

You need to add to every prospect pool, no matter how well ranked it is. We all have high hopes for Ristolainen, Zadorov, Pysyk, McCabe, etc., but unless the Sabres' draft success suddenly hits unparalleled level, it's likely that at least one of them, possibly more, won't be as good as hoped. It happens to every team. The Sabres will continue to draft and develop defensemen and forwards. It's fine for now, but needs to, and will be added to in the coming years.

It seems, from what I've read, that Martin seems like a good up comer who fell this last draft. But yes, well need to keep developing d men. |

I was actually pretty surprised we didn't grab a D until the 3rd.

He couldn't help run a NCAA B-Ball bracket let alone a hockey camp. |
