His Columbus time.
8 games to start the year no goals, scores 3 in the next 2, then goes 6 without a goal, scores 4 in the next four, goes 2 without, scores 3 in the next, then 0 in the next 7, 2 in 2, then 0 in the next 6, scores 3, and then traded.
That's Vanek like consistency.
He's an avg set up man. One season where he had more assists than goals. Good two way guy. - dadeadhead
I never bought that way of thinking. Look how many goals (for goal scorers, or points, whatever) they have at the end of the year. Not if they came in bunches or not.
Its like players like Vanek or Carter or the like get a bad rap for being good and going on hot streaks.
Would you rather a guy score once every 6-8 games like clockwork and be consistant or have a guy pop in 30-40 and go in spurts? |

It depends. IMO as long as their consistent when it matters.
Carter is, he's been key in both of their cup wins.
As much as Vanek is a good goal scorer, when he disappears, he really disappears |

Since I hate the idea of rooting for another suck season, does anyone feel it's a possibility that a 2015 lottery winner would trade out of #1 for the Sabres top 4 picks?
And would that be wise for us? |

He was a key last year. For the most part he was MIA for their 1st one.
I know you disagree but he was bagged on big time for it. |

Best World Cup EVAH!
*hides from non-futbol fans* - grand-magus
Yea I'm sure for a Germany fan it was
The reality is, with the decline of some of these european powers over the last 8 years combined with the flimsy qualification regulations outside of europe, what we're getting now is a b league tournament with enough global reach to make it look legit.
As a die hard soccer fan, I can't stand to see some of these that make it to the world cup over good euro teams with actual talent and strategy. That's why the euro cup is so much better, sure there are only 16 teams but they all play to win and they all have talent which makes the games entertaining. This tournament had 4 contenders, 6 pretenders and 20 more teams who were just trying their best to "keep it close".
Countries like Iran, USA, Costa Rica all had their moments but in the end all of them were playing not to lose and as the tournament progressed, the quality of football became awful.
Fun fact, I didn't even watch the finals. |

I'm not so sure I've read a more vomit-inducing headline such as: "USA Soccer loses 1-0, Captures Heart of a Nation". I don't usually subscribe to the hard-core right wing narrative of "American Exceptionalism", but do we have to make it that obvious that we are embracing mediocrity?

I have to admit: when I heard Germany scored a touchdown on Brazil and that fans were bawling in the stands, I voluntarily turned it on for the first time ever, just to see if a riot would happen. |

Was more trying to say if one is a Star then so is the other.
If one is overrated then so is the other.
If one is underrated then so is the other.
Both are paid to score goals.
Vanek does it at a better clip and and puts up points at a better clip.
Carter is a better two way player.
Neither interest me seeing on this team. |
