I'm not so sure I've read a more vomit-inducing headline such as: "USA Soccer loses 1-0, Captures Heart of a Nation". I don't usually subscribe to the hard-core right wing narrative of "American Exceptionalism", but do we have to make it that obvious that we are embracing mediocrity? - buffalofan19
This is exactly what's wrong with the 21st century version of the world cup. People don't like to admit it, but this event is at it's finest when an elite group of european teams (and two south americans) are dominating the field with truly entertaining football. That tournament needs super teams back in the worst way, i get that it's still popular, but the buzz around it is fraction of what it was a decade ago. |

Some of those people aren't me..........
Dalpe is an AHL depth signing/poss call up. Not a thing more. - dadeadhead
Flynn is basically the same player to me. A terrible 4th liner. |

Time to make you boys and girls think.
EXCLUDING Orr, Bourque, Chara, Coffey, MacInnis, Lidstrom, Potvin and Leetch, who are your top 3 modern-era defensemen?
For me, it's Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer and Rod Langway. - grand-magus
Pronger, Niedermayer, Doughty. |

IMO that's not a bad thing.
Stop diving and the faking bullsh!t and I'll then think about giving a sh!t.
Until then, paint drying is more entertaining. |

That Lionel Messi is like Bure on a soccer field. Wow, he's fun to watch.

Always in the right place at the right time.
He's a good 3rd liner.
Nothing more, nothing less. |

But that's exactly what I'm getting at, sure diving has been a part of the game for a long time now but the difference now is players are using it to make up for a lack of talent on their teams, before it was just the occasional tool who was either afraid of getting hurt or looking to win a free kick after he turned the ball over.
IMO, the diving/fake bullpoop you're referring to has increased 10 fold since the decline of these teams. I don't know how to explain it in words but it if I didn't know any better i'd say these national teams got a salary cap placed on them the way it's gone. People see it as these other countries getting better, bullpoop, they're still just as bad it's just the big boys who got worse. |

One man teams bore me, even my own nation bored me with that method. Give me a well oiled machine over messi in the world cup any day.
Semi finals used to be the big 4 of europe clashing in a battle of wits, coaching/strategy, precision passing and finesse.
What did we get this year, a game that put my 6 year old sugar crazed cousin to sleep and another game so bad it was featured on a porn site. |

He's a solid player, I get that he's nothing more than a 3rd liner but I'm surprised at the dislike towards him from some.
Wonder if it would be the same if he was a few inches taller |

Is a good weekend one that you don't remember what ya had to eat . A progressive camp crawl dinner and then a fantasy island union picnic to top it off. Bad to see they haven't changed the food vendors there |

If he popped in a few more of his chances, those people wouldn't complain.
It will come around.

Agreed, I'd be curious to know what his shooting % was vs the league average, may shed some light on his offense. |

That's possible.
I like Flynn, but in 1-2 years we will have a ton of guys competing for bottom 6 playing time
Larsson
Catenacci
Gionta will make his way to the 3rd line
Baptiste
Schaller

IMO he's a 4th line energy guy. He maybe never makes.
I do think that there is a lot of competition for guys like Flynn |

Yeah, but Germany won.
The rest is just details.
They're saying the Russians have already doubled their initial budget for 2018. And we're still four years out.
Seems they have learned nil since the Olympic fiasco. |
