I thought it was interesting that Doughty was the 12th player to hoist the cup in the post-game festivities.... I don't believe that Doughty has the respect of his teammates.... or else they would have given it to him earlier...
It sure looked like he told Carter to STFU when he was throwing a fit on the bench.. it was mentioned somewhere that he also cursed out Brown....
Neither is considered appropriate behavior for leadership... - aloshenka
Nah the team is always talking about how much a family they are. Stoll was quoted as saying that if any player was self centered they wouldn't let them in the locker room or something like that |

noticed he didn't get it very early either. i think its going to take some time, maturing, and personnel changes before he gets even an A on his sweater. he be a leader without a permanent letter on his jersey. |

I agree with the sentiments that there are better options in front of him. Kopitar in particular.
As far as his on-ice stuff goes versus his off-ice stuff, he's very different. From everything I've heard and experienced, Doughty is a pretty low-key guy. Very funny. Still noticeably young but he's definitely not a jerk as one post implied. Everyone on the Kings tends to get along and it's a super tight knit group.
You can say the same for Steve Ott. Ott is probably one of the biggest pests in the league, but off the ice i've heard he's basically a fantastic human being and a great guy. On-ice attitude =/= Off-ice attitude. |

Please don't get me wrong. I'd have Doughty on my team any day. If you traded him for any Duck defender, the Ducks would probably win a championship in the next three years.
But this guy is a jerk. Guys won't follow him. Just keep him as a talented defenseman and count your blessings. The Kings should have their character guys wear the letters. Doughty is not one of them.
Oh, and this is just a clip, but if you saw the whole thing, the bit at 0:25 is pretty telling. Why does anyone of Doughty's pedigree have to do anything but point at his ring finger when speaking to a career minor leaguer?

So because he likes to chirp he's not captain material. Yea he is know Corey Perry in terms of leadership ....
If were talking captain material on this team there is just too many guys that are good leaders and play the game the right way. Kopi could easily be a captain. Richards and Carter as well. Williams would probably wear a letter on another team. It's a good problem to have. Doughty wore an A last year during split squad pre-season games. |

He needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Sure, he's a winner. But he does whine a ton.
The Kings have a lot of better options for Captain. Kopitar, Williams, Green, Carter, etc. - niedermayer27
That's funny coming from a Duck fan. The Ducks picked the biggest whinner in the locker room and gave him the C.

Personally I think it is a irrelevent question to ask. Fans only see how players act in interviews and how they play. We don't actually know the players so we don't see if they have any traits of a leader. There is more to being a good player and preforming in the playoffs when it comes to captains. |

Kopitar would be a better option.
I don't think doughty will wear C for the Kings anytime soon. IMO

Corey Perry isn't the Captain? |

Getzlaf? Err, no. He barely even speaks to the referees these days. |

Love all the ad hominem arguments from Kings fans here. But I'm not sure what the whining/leadership ability of the likes of Perry and Kesler have to do with the original topic, Doughty for Captain. As I said, he's a great player, but he has a rep for throwing tantrums. I guess you could give him an A to try and get him to set more of an example? |
