I think part of this is on VLC. He needs to make the mental decision to adjust the way he plays. I guy with as much pure hockey talent as he has should be able to adjust his mindset to fit more with what Berube is trying to do. Frankly, that is the best way for him to extend his career.
He has to decide to become a better defensive player. He may not have the speed, but I don't buy that he doesn't have the hockey smarts to figure it out.
I have never understood how the best players in any sport are not also the best players at every aspect of the sport, especially a sport like hockey.
I always think of Michael Jordan, which in some ways is an apt comparison considering the hype when VLC was drafted. Not only was Jordan the best offensive player in the game, but his skill set and PRIDE was such that he also made himself in to the best DEFENSIVE player in the game as well.
There are plenty of players in this league who adjusted their games as they got older, VLC needs to be one of those players. That is the bottom line.

I can totally understand not being the best in all aspects, I can even understand being below average in an aspect or two, depending on the sport. My problem is when a top talent isnt even adequate in one or more aspects of the game.

well.. yeah, I'm obviously not a top talent because first Ob threatened me with the ECHL and then I had to sign in the KHL for 3 rubles and a half eaten vatrushka. |

Even Claude Giroux has been average defensively at times. Especially at key dying moments of a third period when we're trying to hang on to a one goal lead. I don't think there is anything wrong with giving such faceoff and defensive zone responsibilities to Sean Couturier from here on out. |

I believe he could score 30 if he's used on the first PP unit regularly. |

It's all usage dependent. I hope Berube's grand plan isn't to just slide Schenn to LW so Vinny can play the middle. |

of all the combos ive seen posted, the ones that interest me the most have G and Jake split up...which i know you're a big advocate of. |

I'd do that regardless of Vinny being here or not. I'd probably split Read and Couturier, too |

Usually when a top talent isn't even adequate in one or more aspects of the game, it's due to some kind of apathy or work ethic issue. Or injury. I don't think the former is an issue with Lecavalier.

Catch 22 for me. Like the idea of splitting them up. But then there really isn't an ideal top line winger to play with Giroux.
