And now, 2 poll questions for the day

1. Most beloved player who never played for the Flyers. Can be from any era.
and
2. Most hated player who never played for the Flyers. Can also be from any era.

My choices are:
1. Gordie Howe
2. Tomas Sandstrom

- BiggE

1. My favorite non-Flyer ever was probably Forsberg. The guy was an absolute treat to watch every day. Shea Weber may surpass him someday.

2. Most hated non-Flyers is easy: Matthew Barnaby. The guy just had that face you wanted to punch before Crosby perfected it. He was a dirty bastard, he jumped a goalie, was as bad as Claude Lemieux with the diving...basically, he was a collection of all of the individual traits that other players I hate had.

Absolutely. When you're a kid, they positional fundamentals because you need some sort of structure. At the NHL level, it's not like they have specific lanes where players just skate up and down. There's far too much movement and speed in today's game for players to always cover the same man/area.

Teams will have set responsibilities in certain situations such as in faceoff situations. There every player gets to preset in the proper position. But in terms of a forecheck, or a back check situation. It's different depending on which forward is in deep, and which forward is the 3rd man high, etc. In that type of situation it's more of F1,F2, F3, rather then Center, LW, RW. And forwards have to know all the responsbilities of all 3 positions on a backcheck, because the LW might be the first forward back, and the Center may be the last forward back

Yes and no. What his skating was before the injury, and what it was after the injury were two different things.

The difference is pretty negligible though

Well, it could be worse, at least we aren't stuck with Clarkson for 6 more years at 5.25 million!
- BiggE

Or Clowe for four more years at $4.85 million.

Had no idea he Matthew Lombardi was returning to the NHL. He would have seriously been the PERFECT center to add to this team post Lecavalier trade.

Giroux
Couturier
Lombardi
Laughton

Pretty good 200 foot player with a TON of speed, which is something we desperately need. Led the Swiss leauge in points and assists.

And who does he sign with? THE (frank)ING RANGERS

Yea, there was a definite difference. He had no power in his stride after the injury. he improved somewhat, but not to where he needs to be. Hopefully that back issue doesn't become chronic, and he can get healthy and stay healthy.

Problem on the cap will likely be a lot more severe each year going forward until their is a long term resolution. Fixing it requires a major deal where a big chunk of salary goes out and a lot less salary comes back (eg. Schenn, Scehenn, Umberger and LaCavalier for Kane). Now, of course, Winnipeg would never do that deal (too much salary) but you need to find something that changes the balance.

you really think the current path this team is on is sustainable? and you really think coburn can put a team in the playoffs by himself?

The Flyers don't have to do anything drastic. They can use LTIR Option 2 this season, and next year the cap will be going up and at least one or two of the young defensmen on ELCs will be coming in.

Even this season all they have to do to get under the cap on the last day of camp is trade Grossmann or LSchenn, something Hextall has said would be easy to do.

http://www.hockeyforums.n...-sth-townhall-2014-recap/

Answering why bring in Schultz as a 7th Dman, will it be keeping a young player from getting a crack:

First of all, if young guy comes in and knocks us over the head, I’ll make a move. It’s easy to move a defenseman. I’m not concerned about that. What I was more concerned with was leaving that spot there, and HAVING to bring in a kid. I don’t want a kid sitting the bench….I want to develop these kids at the pace and the right time and bring em in when they’re ready. It’s a long season. Players get hurt and if a players gotta go to the minors, even for a month because we’ve got 7 defensemen, too damn bad.

- Feanor

Honestly, I am really hoping this happens. I know that it probably won't, but I'd love to see a guy like Mark Alt make the team and then force Hexy to move one of Grossmann, Schenn or Macdonald. Wishful thinking, I know.

I hope Hexy never signs a player to a 5 year deal, 3 max
